Very interesting stuff here. Makes me want to visit. Does anyone know of a travel group/club that is focused on scientific tours at reasonable rates?

Nyabingi, The American Museum of Natural History in New York City often has scientific vacations. You can visit their site by clicking on the following link:

Syracuse University also sometimes has such trips, check with the respective depts that interest you or the alumni office. You may also want to check with other Universities that may have departments that are of interest to you, one such may be Columbia University( Paleontology, Archeology, Geology Depts). Also large Botanical Gardens or societies.
I am in the US so I quickly refer to US resources but if you are in JA you may want to check with University of West Indies, one of the Botanical Gardens or Cornell University which has a marine study program in JA
