I received a call from a friend in Great Bay who got some free flower seeds up at the Plaza near the Breds office. Does anyone know where these come from and who is getting them? Are they being paid for from the Dean Hurricane Funds?

These seeds are a personal donation from Karen and Peter Kennedy, not Dean Hurricane funds. They did this after Ivan and within 4-6 weeks all of Treasure Beach was in bloom!

I look forward to seeing TB back in bloom thanks to their generosity.

How do people get them? Do they need to come to a particular place?

We are definitely NOT saints. We are merely people who love the people of Treasure Beach.

Peter and I had lived on another Caribbean island and left there in 1980 due to the serious crime problem. But, we remained island lovers.

We came to Treasure Beach first in early 1986. Quite honestly, I was concerned about what I had heard to be a horrible crime problem in Jamaica. After looking at numerous places to stay, I decided the offerings in MoBay were not for us. While the places looked pretty, they also boasted such "amenities" as 8-foot barbed wire fences, guard dogs, bars on the windows, and 24-hour protective services. Not for us ... (It sounded like being in a prison in a bathing suit.)

Then we read about Treasure Beach. And, we decided to give it a try. We rented a villa for a week, and the rest is history. Two days after we returned home, we rebooked. Two years later we bought land. And two years after that we started to build Rainbow Tree. Though we rent it as much as possible, Rainbow Tree (and now Rainbow Point) was a labor of love. Our staff has been with us since 1990, we adore them, and our guests feel the same way.

So, the flower seeds are merely a token of appreciation for all the joy we have received from being a part of Treasure Beach for more than 20 years.

To answer some questions, we brought two types of zinnias (California Giant and Lilliput) and two types of marigolds (Crackerjack and Sparky). We brought them down in bulk. On Tuesday, we had about 12 - 15 peole here willingly and happily packing them into small bags for distribution. (If they would have been packed in the same quantities one finds in commercial flower seeds, they would have equaled more than 8,000 packages; instead, we made up about 1,500 larger packages.)

They are being distributed from one end of Treasure Beach to another without regard for need or financial status. (Who can't use flowers?) We have asked people to share them as much as possible with their neighbors and friends, insuring that the place is full of beautiful flowers.

Not saints because you have to be dead to be a saint. Exceedingly decent and caring human beings. It does my heart good to know that my favourite vacation spot is cared about so selflessly by others. I well understand why the Kennedys chose and fell in love with Treasure Beach.

Blessings to both of you.

Mother Theresa was referred to as a saint long before she died.
I wasn't being literal, just complimenting a wonderful couple for all of the great things they do for the TB community.

I am so appreciative of the fact that the Kenndy's came to Jamaica and loved it so much and of course even more impressed that they chose Treasure Beach as their home and to have become such active members of the community that is awesome in it self. i have heard alot about them and hopefully will get to meet them next time i am home visiting. I always brag about where in Jamaica i grew up to all my friends here in the USA . They are very much anticipating taking a trip with me soon. I love Treasure Beach so much and miss it alot. There is no where better than home . Even though most of my family lives here in the US , there is always still that void.

Got another call today. Now the six girls who received the most recent scholarships are handing out the flower seeds too. I don't arrive until February, but I hope the flowers are still blooming when I am there.

The idea of these flowers all over Treasure Beach makes me feel happy inside. Thank you.
