How did the Ackee trees make out?
I saw an article about the banana trees , stating that it would be 6-8 months before they recover.
Also wonder about the farmers, especially the Ital growers. How are the crops?
Hoping for some yummy ackees and fresh veggies when I reach in Nov...

In Nov, might be smart to plan to stop downtown MoBay fruit/veg market as well as en route at roadside vendors for ackee. The Whitehouse Fri/Sat open air market and even Sav are worth checking.
A few still on trees in Belmont/Bluefields/Caledonia/Darliston area
(most of them now 'already captured' for a group of guests coming in later this month for a holistic health retreat in Great Bay). Kingston is still undersupplied but North Coast unaffected and supplies there good. You'll probably see some higher prices and more imports from Florida. Most TB locals will be on the hunt since the immediate post hurricane diet of bully beef and cocktail franks leaves the belly wanting more...

Sorry to say I saw one ackee tree after another wrecked by the storm. Didn't see trees full until we hit Sav on the way to MoBay. So sad. I had just picked some from the tree in our yard on the Friday before the storm. Would have picked more if I'd known what Dean was going to do.

Thankyou for the updates, and suggestions for stopping on the way down to pick up supplies. What a great idea.
Perhaps the Holistic Healers can get their supply on the way down from the airport and leave what is local to the locals, who have no means to travel.
