Hi Karen, I contacted you previously about the fundraising efforts of pupils and staff at St John's High School, Dundee, Scotland....we have now raised enough to pay for the roof repairs on Sandy Bank Basic School...we have a cheque here for £750 waiting to be sent...I can not email or access my email in work today so if you could just post me a quick message on the forum to confirm to me that I should send this cheque to the address on the website...VA, USA......hopefully this will mean the school can open as soon as possible..... Jennifer

Please ensure the staff and students and all send a card to those at St John's High School.

This is the best news I have heard so far.

Just got off the phone with an estatic Karen. She asked me to tell you, Bless You, Bless You, Bless You!

She said to go ahead and mail the check to the Virginia address.

Thanks again Jennifer!

Just got another call from Karen. Please send the check in US funds as her bank charges a great deal to exchange the funds.

You can email me at treasuretours@cwjamaica.com if this is a problem and I can give you further instructions.

Thanks!

I have a suggestion. Jennifer left her email address in her first message. For everyone who reads this and is thankful for the work she and The St. John's High School did for our Sandy Bank Basic School, click on her name and send her and her school a thank you email. I'm sure she would love to print out a whole heap of thank you emails to bring to the school to read to all involved.

This way we can all send a thank you note and show our appreciation.

Rebecca, That's a great suggestion. I've already sent my Thank You from North America. It will be nice for the students to receive letters from all of us world-wide who love TB and to see how globally connected we all are.

I asked Jennifer how they raised the funds and this was her response.

I am coming out to Treasure Beach to
> >volunteer there at start of October with my husband and I
> >had been collecting donations of school supplies and
> >books to bring across. Then when the hurricane hit
> >everyone at the school wanted to do more to help.....we
> >ran a non-uniform day where by pupils and staff could
> >wear their own clothes that day and make a
> >donation....some of the kids are doing other things
> >themselves( Cake and Candy, Guess The Teddy Bear
> >Birthday...their own ideas) which is really fantastic to
> >see their generosity of spirit and desire to help other
> >children...they have all been asking me loads of
> >questions about Jamaica/TreasureBeach/ Hurricane(s)and it
> >is a real eye opener for them too. Now they can see they
> >have actually managed to pay for something that is real
> >to them... a school roof...they are amazed...and now want
> >to do more!

Thanks again to Jennifer and The St. John's High School for caring.

I was able to write my own note to Jennifer from Treasure Beach this morning. However, I wanted all the readers of TB.net to know how very grateful the people of Treaure Beach are for what she, the pupils, and staff at St. John's High School have done for this community. Paula
Deleon, the Principal at Sandy Bank Basic School, is particularly ecstatic. Thank you, thak you, thank you.

Here are a few pictures taken at the Basic School. These will give you an idea of the type of repairs that need to be handled.

Can Miss Paula use anything in addition to the construction materials? We will not be visiting for several months, but I would like to help this little school in more ways. We would be willing to bring some small items with us.

Try books apropriate for young children (either for them to read themselves or to be read aloud to them), pencils, crayons, construction paper, drawing paper, glue, workbooks, notebooks, paints, and small paint brushes. They can also use some toys, especially those which inspire their imagination. You can also feel free to drop off clothing which in sizes 4 to 6X -- and shoes (wider widths). They need to wear uniforms to school, but some of them could use more at home.
