I was wondering if the Hampton girls could give me an update of how everyone is doing, both academically and physically? For those that are eligible- are they going on to sixth form...or college/university? I was wondering about people like Jeneille Chedda, Gaysha Abrahams, Yanique Campbell, Tresan Campbell, Crystal Parchment, Renea Pearce, Abbygaye Graham, Latoya Deleon, Candice James and any others that I may have forgotten. One thing that interests me the most is whether Yanique is still the top performer in her grade level. She is such a smart girl, just like the other girls.

Maybe the Munro boys could do the same also. People like Kimar Parchment, Loy Clarke, Javid Genius, Osane James and anybody else I forgot.

I am interested because I knew every one of them on some level and instead of singling them out, I would just group them together and inquire about all of them.

It is very good that you could be asking about how persons are doing..however I do not believe this is the forum for it. Especially based on the fact that you disguise yourself by just calling yourself 'interested' and you want persons to now write back and say well A is going to College, B is still sitting at home without any subjects, C is gone back to 6th Form - I am not sure the parents will appreciate this route. I also do not like the way you single out one student as if you have some other motive than just interest. If you would be so kind as to put your name and Email address then I am sure you will be responded to directly. I am not the Web Site Administrator - but with all due respect - I don't believe we want to start this kind of forum, especially when there is no means of contacting you directly. Thanks - looking for your contact.

In defense of "Interested", last time I checked, the Internet was a cyber world in which everyone was free to come and go. The beauty of the forum is that one has the freedom to identify oneself, or simply use a pen name, if one so chooses. Reciprocally, those who are being inquired about have the same choice...... to respond or not to respond. So far they have chosen to do the latter.

So "Veery Interesting", do you see how that works out?

It amazes me how one could take a simple inquiry and blow it out of proportion.I am a regular reader of TB net, and almost every article posted has caused some un-necessary fraccas. Why are we always ready to jump to negative conclusions so easily ? Let's try and create some positive vibes nuh? I am sure 'Interested' meant well in her inquiry.

For Jus' Chill - this is why persons have Email addresses. So there is still a protocol for using the Internet- it is not as free. Why don't the TB Administrator let through everything that comes to them - as I know otherwise. I am sticking to my point - questions like this should be dealt with personally or the writer needs to put their Email address. When we get into putting persons names and querying information like this we could be starting a gossipping forum. I rest my case.

For "Very Interesting" I know the internet is not free, I think everyone knows that. There is nothing wrong with people using this forum to ask about Hampton school kids. Why waste time and write and ask each kids personally when you can ask here? I go on this site many times a day. When I write I dont normally give my email adress. Beacuse I dont think I have to give it. I dont really know why people have to make small things and make it into a big deal. Keep up the good work Rebecca and Eric.

It seems there are 3 issues on this one:

1) Should someone ask about the status of minors (those under the age of adult) in a public forum and request a public response.
No, you should not ask about children here and request an answer in this public forum. Post a message and ask to be privately emailed to protect their privacy.

Imagine if a harmless request is made by Person A about Child B. If Person C responds, trying to be helpful, and lets out private information about Child B which they (or parents) don't want to be known, then that's not a good situation.

So please use this place to ask, but if its personal info give other the ability to know who you are and to respond privately. And if you're uncomfortable with leaving an email address or phone number in a public place, then maybe you should ask privately in the first place.

2) If someone asks about the status of ANYONE in a public forum, should they give their real name and email?
Anytime you call someone's name in a public arena, you should take responsibility for it and post your real name/email. Why would it be acceptable to hide behind an alias when you are using other people's real names?

3) How should someone respond to a posting they feel is not appropriate.
You catch more flies with sugar than vinegar. If you attack someone, they are going to be naturally defensive. This usually leads to a bigger confrontation rather than getting your message across.

I think we (myself included, of course) should treat use our manners more and treat the other with respect even when you don't agree with them. Try to come to an understanding rather than a showdown.

My 2 cents,
Eric

I agree with Eric. Its OK to post things not using your real name. But if you are asking about someone, especially a child ten say your real name and give your email address or phone number. The same should go for when you say something about someone else and use there name. Thats polite and also its safer. We need to remember its for the safety of the children and its tru people should have the backbone to stand behind what they say. TB is a polite place. Lets keep this forum as polite as we want others to see us.

OK. So TB Net publshes the names of all the children who were offered scholarships, and someone sends congrats under an assumed name. Is that wrong too? I mean the person sending congrats did not post the kids' names originally.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Eric on Saturday, August 11, 2007 - 09:23 pm: Edit Post

I believe the parents/children knew that their names would be posted here, which means they were informed and therefore gave consent.

And the person giving congrats did not ask for personal info, etc. about them. So to me its two different things.

Hopefully no more energy will be used on this topic. Maybe we can turn our energy toward some of the area primary and basic schools that are in need of assistance. Let's support scholarship fundraising, volunteering, building improvement efforts, back to school supplies donations. Let's do all we can individually and collectively to ensure that as many as possible of our children can attend high school now and in the future! One Love

Thank you for the explanation Eric. I thought that was the proper protocol but needed some confirmation. By now you must realize that the TB clan are all fighting cousins. Keep up the wonderful job of refereeing that both you and Rebecca are doing.

Amen, Alice.

The upcoming raffle for high school scholarships will be announced here this week, so you will all have a chance to help out.

And Mr. Molehill...good way to explain it :-)

Hi Tresan, I guess I should have thought more before I posted my message. I never realized the chaos that would arise. I really just wanted to find out about you guys since it has been a while. I guess using the internet as a forum for checking up was a bad idea.

Anyway, I am glad you responded and good luck at UTech.

I will get my email address to you if I can find some way other than TBnet to do so. God Bless you and your family.

PS. I use my previous username reluctantly...

Thank you interested......
You can contact me at my alternative email address which is tresli@yahoo.com

That email address is not permanent, I use it as an alternative.
Upon contacting me and stating your identity, then I'll give you the other address.

Your motives may have been honest interested but the other persons are just being cautious about our safety.
