Curious I am with you. When I was coming up, the people from Frenchman and Calabash Bay thought they were the only ones from TB. Then things changed and the Pedro Plains Post Office became the TB Post Office. I am still tickled when I read the postings on TBN and note that the younger generation still feel the same way. Like the Indians said, we must not judge him until we have walked a mile in his shoes. We should get this cleared up and not allow other people to decide for us who is from Treasure Beach and who is not.

The Treasure Beach Hotel was the only place name Treasure Beach. Mr Dicker who was the first owner ask to name the post office ofter the hotel none of these places was name Treasure Beach,it's long ofter the hotel was name that people start calling the areas around Treasure Beach, because if some one was coming to visit the hotel was a good way to direct some one to find your house, like if you pass the Treasure Beach hotel you pass my house or pass the treasure beach hotel and you will find my house.none of these area own this name my grand parents use to work there when the hotel was first open,I ask about the name of the places,I born and grew up in Treasure Beach and i dont have a problem with any one say they are from there it make me proud, one thing we have to remember the hotel has that name and the post office have that name if we can used that name so can they,a nother thing, when we used to get letters it used to only say Billys Bay District Sndy Bank P.A it never say Treasure Beach until lately only the people from Flagman,Beacon,Cross RD,Pedro Plains, pick up there mails at the Treasure Beach post office i would consider those places a paret of Treasure Beach as well.

If the area never a get its name call so much, Nobody would care seh dem community nah get mention as a part of Treasure Beach. Why can't people just move pass this; "Who live inna Treasure Beach and Who nuh live inna Treasure Beach?" It's not like your life gets easier if you get labeled as a citizen of Treasure Beach. Life is just as hard on the Brown dirt as the Red dirt. Are you an outcast if your community is not considered apart of Treasure Beach? If it makes life easier, heck I want to learn the secret so I can cash in on it. LOL!!!!

I cannot give a reference at this time but I came across 'Hato (ranch) de Periera/Perierra?' reference for Great Bay, I think it was a copy of an early map.

The Perierras (Pears) were probably a Sepahardic (Spanish) Jewish family of which there were several in St Elizabeth.

SAG Taylor's Western Design has some references to the area during the English entry and settlement.

There are many Taino retentions in the area.

Cassava and its implements.

Wrapped packy goadie stoppered with a corn cob.

Layered long burning torch.

Any more?

Is the high craft tradition also a Taino retention?

Best, turey.

I would like to add a little bit of information as to how Treasure Beach got its name.I am fr
om Treasure Beach but now live in the us.While I was attending Nursing school I had to do a study of the community where I was from.I found this project to be very interesting and was very proud to give a detailed study of such a wonderful community such as Treasure Beach. From this study I earned an A+ the highest grade in my class of 35 students. This is what I learned then. The community of Treasure Beach got its name in 1940 by Governor and Lady Richards when they stayed as a guest at the Treasure Beach hotel. During that time the entire community was known as the Pedro Plains and the post office was also known as the Pedro Plains post office,it was not until Governor Richards letters started going to the Pedro post office in ST Ann that he suggested that the post office should be called Treasure Beach post office as the Hotel had that name and it would be easier, hence the community of Pedro Plains was changed to Treasure Beach. This info was given to me by an elderly citizen from the community who was also a former employee at the Treasure Beach hotel.

I am wondering , where our great grandparents attended school was it at Pedro Plains or Sandy Bank School (which was built first)also the year,
It would also be interesting to know about the police station ,(when built and first arrest, charges and find)Then think about the fishermen ,what encourage them to build those boats out of cotton trees ,i remember the fishtraps used to be built with bamboo, look at the unique design of the fishtraps ,the shape, form and function, show sign of modern day technology.
