Been to Jamaica recently i observe that most of the people are seeking changes ,but there are some who has no idea what they are voting for ,or what their party represent ,the basic fundamental issues is of no concern to them ,they just want to win, and whatever happen after they will accept at any cost. This make me (want) to believe that politics has created a psychological effect on some of the people ablity to see and think cleary when it come to politic.
I must applaud the new devlopment at the Airport in Montego Bay i was very proud of it , but the roads going south was horrible ,there were potholes galore and the bushes on the side of the roads ,lower Treasure Beach and Great Bay are just waiting for the next rain to make them deplorable ,you think with the devlopment of South Coast Tourism they would\ve done better .Its sad to see the hopelessness of the youths and the plight of the fishermen ,
Lets hope whoever win this election the young and newly elected will created a better ways and means for serving our people , we need some changes,or we may end- up like Tinatic ,lets hope for a greener pasture ,lets hope and pray for a safe and peaceful election. (anyway i did enjoy my two weeks in Treasure Beach and its like a magnet pulling to go back ) GOD BLESS EVERYONE.

T.B. you are so correct!!! Can you imagine what the world would be like if everyone decided to just vote for their "party" regardless of the outcome?? I hope the day will come when Jamaicans will vote for who/what will make our country better. Sad to say it seems like that will be a long time coming.

Thanks for your post Situation Crisis.

I hope the unrealised strengths slumbering in us will manifest in the midst of local and global confusion.

Any suggestions of what one can do individually
no matter who wins what?

Thanks T.B. This confirms that Gt. Bay is not part of the TB connection.

Great Bay has always been part of the TB connection in my mind. I guess it is a personal opinion.

The best thing is whether Great Bay, Treasure Beach, Montego Bay, or Kingston it is all St. Elizabeth and all Jamaica.

To my knowledge these are the districts that makes TB,Great Bay,Calabash Bay,Frenchman,Billy's Bay,Beacon, parts of Newcombe Valley, Bluntas,Pedro Plains,Cross Roads and parts of back Flagaman,i stand corrected.

Kind of a useless argument re Great Bay.

Treasure Beach is broadly defined as comprising all those districts served by the Treasure Beach Post Office. So, Great Bay is without question part of the community.
Furthermore, there was traditionally a great closeness between the residents of Great Bay and other districts 'below station' because the children from all these districts used to meet up at Sandy Bank basic and primary schools and form lasting friendships there.
The fishermen from all the beaches (including Great Bay) also established strong bonds of friendship.
A few changes have occurred in recent years:
1. The little road linking Great Bay and Sandy Bank was abandoned some time ago, making it more difficult for the children to make the treck; added to that is the fact that the Great Pond has become much more active in recent years so it is not as easy to use it as a short cut anymore.
2. Some of the Great Bay children are now going to different schools for these and other reasons these days, which means that some relationships are not established as naturally as they used to be in the early days. That is not to say that some of that is still not happening; just saying there have been some changes.
3. The fishing industry is not as vibrant as it used to be and maybe... maybe there is not as much interraction among the fishermen as used to be the case.

Efforts could be made to bring people together more often through sport and other community activities.

That could help, and then the Great Bay people would not feel as isolated and would perhaps receive more ready support from the rest of the community.

I try not to business with Jamaican politrix too much. But, I wish people would be respectful of other peoples right to choose who / what party to support. It is disheartening to hear of some who are trying to intimmidate others into changing their party affiliation or prevent them from voting for the candidate of their choice. I hope and pray that no one is hurt.

As a youth I remember there was a stigma towards the Great Bay students at Sandy Bank Primary. Exclusions were made for the few who excelled in sports or academics, or had a way with the girls.

This attitude even carried over into adulthood where a fight was guaranteed at the end of the annual dance at school. There was an unspoken understanding that, when you heard "bokkle bruk", you had better make a b line for the exits because the fight was about to start between guys from G.B.and others from another district.

The beauty about those fights was that they were mostly amongst a few drunks who were too liquored up to cause serious damage to each other, and of course "Ashman and Spar would put a quick end to the fracas. Also, as early as the next day, the rivals soon made up and were back to being drinking buddies again. Fishermen have a way of doing that (there's some connection there between sea and rum I believe).

The fact that there were rivalries does not equate to Great Bay not being a part of the wider TB community. Every family has internal fractures and, with all the wonderful memories that I have of school days and my classmates (Miss Madge, 1970.....if I remember correctly), I certainly don't feel any less a part of TB.

As for the polistink and the politrick, I man don' have nuttin' fi do wid dat! Guidance.

Whether we from Great Bay, Calabash Bay Sandy Bank, Frenchman, Billys Bay WE ARE ALL ONE.WE are all from the Bays we struggle together- we laugh together- we cry together- we got licks at Sandy Bank school together- UNITED WE STAND. Can't we all just get along? Great districts to be from. "Like the FAB 5 says St.Elizabeth women are the prettiest, soon as you meet them they want to marry." PEACE OUT

I just saw a posting for VIJON, and they indicate that there are a good number of schools in Treasure Beach. I am asking because I would like to help several of the area schools and it sounds like Sandy Bank Primary is the main recipient of assistance from abroad.

Is Pedro Plains Primary in Treasure Beach?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By VIJON on Monday, August 13, 2007 - 09:42 pm: Edit Post

Pedro Plains Primary is between "Cross Roads" and the Pedro Plains Police Station. I certainly wouldn't want to be involved in the argument which is repeated on this board over and again as to which districts are or are not part of Treasure Beach, suffice it to say the Treasure Beach Post office is in the plaza directly across the street from Pedro Plains Primary, however, I have never heard of the district being considared Treasure Beach.

There ARE numerous schools in the area, all can use assistance, even Sandy Bank Primary which does receive the vast majority of outside help.

Of note, VIJON's mission is to promote similar projects throughout Jamaica, not just Treasure Beach.
