Should potential visitors be concerned about being in JA around this time, specifically being in TB? What is the political climate? Are elections orderly and without violence, etc? Would like to know as I'm planning a trip from 7~29 August. Feedback would be appreciated.

I share your sentiments Canada; in fact all of us who love JA, and TB in particular, feel the same way:

"Just think
For a while.....
Dip your finger in the ink
and
walk away with a smile
and a wink"

While I am not sure if this election for is all the member of paliamnet, Prime Minister and the Parish Council Members. If it is. this a good time for every soul in Treasure Beach and vicinity to remeber the memeber that gives no hoot about the road condition and the well begin of all of us resident, visitor, in fact everyone and anyone that can vote and use the road in and out of Treasure Beach. Forget the bribe, (Flour and Suagr and other stuff) your livelyhood and in fact you life depends on the road that we all travel in and out of the area. Remember the flooding, the pond, the back breaking potholes and the headache. Throw out the rascals that are not for you when we need them.

Ladies and gentlemen of beautiful Jamaica. You need people who will work for you. You no longer need their friendship, flour, salt-fish and cornmeal. Beautiful Jamaica is as beautiful as is because of YOUR hard work, not those in politics. They have done nothing to make the health-care system, the road or schools any better. As for the safety of the country, it is ashame. Wake up Jamaicans, pick the best of the crop. Stop voting for the party your great grand fathers were a member of.

Alice, the answer is No, you should not worry about being in JA during elections. As with most of the issues concerning the island, if anything negative does happen it will be in the big cities of Kingston or Montego Bay, etc. (And not around the airport in Mo Bay if that's where you're flying into)

Sleepy Treasure Beach is spared all that nonsense.

Go on your trip and you'll have a great time

It's time to stop panicking about elections in Jamaica!
1980 was the last time that we had a really violent election campaign.
We have enough problems outside of the election time table; we don't have to get hysterical and add concerns about election violence to that.
And, by the way, the actual electoral system is now of First World standard. The results are now more certain than can be said for the last two presidential elections in the USA.

Vote for Rebecca and Earl if you don't know who else to vote for- they are not runnig so sorry. Vote for the people who was there when you needed road, light water and hurricane relief. What does it take to wake up Jamaica. Treasure Beach people please do the right thing.

Thanks Canada, but I would not want that job for anything that could be promised to me.

To Alice, I've been living in Treasure Beach for 14 years and during each election I have experienced, I was driving all over the country. I never had any problems in any of the places I was traveling to, visiting, or living in. I tend to agree with Watching, It's time to stop panicking about elections in Jamaica!
1980 was the last time that we had a really violent election campaign.

As an FYI, it has been our experience that once we approve a message which is in favor of one candidate or political party, the thread quickly deteriorates into a mud slinging discussion.

Therefore TB.Net does not accept any messages specific to any political party. We welcome you to air your concerns and opinions on how you would like to see things change and improvements to be made, however anything specific to any political party or politician will not be approved.

Thanks for your understanding.
