We are planning a trip for late november, and are staying in the Fort Charles Beach area. We might charter a boat for a day to do some fishing, but would also be interested if there is any shore fishing in the area. Not trying to compete with the local fisherman, this would be strictly catch and release. Just wondering if it is worth bringing down some gear to enjoy sunrise on the water(even in Jamaica, I can't sleep in) and what gear would be productive.
Thanks
Randy

You can go shore fishing in Fort Charles, you can either stand in the water near the shore or go to the reefs.A regular fishing pole will work with say a 20 to 35lbs fishing line.
Check out fish-jamaica.com for lots of good information on fishing in Treasure Beach.
Been to TB 4 times and always took along a small spin casting rod and reel Its great just to cast and relax from the beach early morning and evening and with a couple of shiny small spinners Go see Cory if you want to go offshore He is a really nice person Not much to catch from the beach but you never know Enjoy
Just make sure you find out what the fishermen rules are - as some might let you catch the fish for them instead of you getting it - doesnt sound right to me after you have paid for the trip.
Rootsie, what the heck are you fishing for on the beach with a 20 to 35 lds fishing line?
Fair-Square if you're the visitor what are you going to do with the fish? By all means take what you can cook and eat but what if you come in with, say, 4 big kingfish? Let them rot? Or, rather, give them to the fisherman who's taking you out? Of course you would give them to the fisherman. After all it is his "brata" or, another way, his icing to the cake, - and he has a family to feed after all.
Sounds good Uncle Peter - I agree with what u say - but it should be left to the guests to give their fish to whomever they wish to. I rest my case.
Sorry i took so long to get back to this thread. Thank-you all for your posts, and information.
