What happened to the info we normally can find on Calabash? Is there a site that has the actual schedule for this year's Festival? From what I can discern, the Festival is only three weeks away but there is no posted schedule of participants and so forth. If there is not a site, can someone please tell me the hours and some of the highlighted persons who will be reading their works.

My hope is to come for the entire Festival and perhaps some time prior to and after the Festival. Is there a list of places to stay, or is it too late for that?

At one point I had seen an actual schedule but it's gone now. But here is something I found on a website featuring Jakes.
Jake's, St. Elizabeth, South Coast

A festival in the truest sense "earthy, inspirational, daring and diverse" the Annual Calabash International Literary Festival will take place at Jake's, a funky Island Outpost resort on Jamaica's untamed south coast from May 25 - 27, 2007.

This year will be the 7th staging of this 3 days and nights of literary and live musical offerings. The event which is opened to the public, free of cost, has seen over 30 authors and musicians from over 10 countries performing.

In addition to the high profile authors attending this year such as Michael Ondaatje, Maryse Conde and Caryl Phillips, and the celebrity of the actors Mike Farrell of M.A.S.H. fame and Roger Guenvuer Smith the prestigious Commonwealth Writer's Prize (CWP) winner will be announced at the Festival.

Some of the previous attendees include: Sonia Sanchez, Russell Banks, Dionne Brand, Meena Alexander, Andrea Levy, Junot Diaz, John Edgar Wideman, Bell Hooks, Elizabeth nunez, Earl Lovelace, Amanda Jones, Amiri Baraka, Linton Kwesi Johnson just to name a few.

"Art is a tool of transformation', says founder and artistic director, Colin Channer. Do come and join the evolution!

The "where to stay" section here is a good starting place for places to stay. Treasure Tours, whose contact info is on this site, has done a good job for me in the past locating places to stay when most things were booked up. I expect things close to Jake's are booked up by now. But you should be able to find housing farther out. I have heard good things about Blue Marlin Villas in the Ft. Charles area. I am staying in the Billy Bay area.

For Calabash festival weekend, many establishments require a 3 night stay.

I've been to almost all of the Calabash Festivals. Hope to see you there. It is well worth it.

Villa Hikaru is -- unusual for us -- still available for the festival week; we're offering half price. Details at www.villahikaru.com

Sunsplash Villa is available for the Calabash Festival. We are available for a party of up to six persons for the Calabash festival. The rates are per night for the rental of the villa, pool and grounds. This would include two helpers to prepare breakfast and dinner for the guests (guests are responsible for the cost of food, or may bring their food for preparation.

Thanks.
