13th April marks 12 months since my beloved son Stuart's death. There is not a day when I don't wake up thinking of him and longing to have him back.

He has left a legacy of love behind him and when I lit a candle for him in the cathedral this week, my thoughts and prayers for Shirley and all his Treasure Beach friends were winging their way across the miles from England.

It would have made Stuart very happy to know that he had created this bond between us. This is a bond which I very much hope will strengthen as we work towards a permanent memorial to Stuart, enabling us to give back to a community which gave so much to my son.

One year ago today many of us in Treasure Beach lost a dear friend. His physical being is gone, however, our memories of him live on in the legacy of friendship and love he passed on to all who knew him. Let us celebrate Stuart's life by honoring and continuing his legacy of cherishing family and friends and living each day to the fullest.

In remembrance of my oldest friend, Stuart, and his great spirit of adventure, I have decided that every 13th April is going to be a ‘carpe diem’ day. I am going to ‘seize the day’, buck the routine and do something that adds value to my life. I’m having a delicious time thinking about all the options! And, no doubt, Stuart is chuckling away somewhere, egging me on to push those boundaries!

Here’s to you, Stu!

One year on, and it's still difficult to believe that Stuart is no longer with us. He was my best friend and I miss him every day. Judy's reference to 'carpe diem' reminds me of when Stuart was leaving London. He asked me to look up a quote from Franklin Delano Roosevelt he could use (I wanted him to use carpe diem but he had this one in mind) - "Let me assert my belief that the only thing that we have to fear is fear itself - nameless, unreasoning unjustified terror that paralyses needed efforts to convert retreat into advance." Stuart fought to realise his dreams, and lived life to the full. He was and is an inspiration who will live on in the hearts of all of us who loved him.

R.I.P, Stuart. You were a hell of a good guy.

I didn't know Stuart or how he died but I certainly can relate to a death of a loved one and I know first hand what a broken heart truly feels like. My prayers are with you. Love K

Stuart was a wonderful and gentle man -- and someone who was loved by so many in Treasure Beach. As his mother, Diana, has indicated, it would be quite fitting if some sort of "permanent memorial" were established as an ongoing celebration of his too-brief life. I feel certain that would make Stuart happy -- and proud.

Only a mother would remember to mention her son and his wife, the way Stuart's mother mentioned Shirley (no one else did). Shirley, stay strong as you live on without the love of your life, Stuart. I hold you in my prayers, always.
