Can anyone help please?

I will be taking a computer and printer/fax machine from the UK to Jamaica.

The voltage in the UK is 240 volts. I have 240 volts supply in my property in Jamaica.

Can anyone advise me please, will the use of the internet and fax machine, run from computer equipment connected to a 240 volts supply, be compatable with the Jamaican telephone network.

Most computers are sold with a dual-voltage power supply. There's usually a switch on the back by the fan that will allow you to set either 120 or 240. So you may not need a converter for it.

I doubt the fax machine would have this, though.

As for Internet/phone/fax, voltage doesn't matter. You should have no problem.

To be on the safe side, why dont you buy yourself a stepdown transformer of a good wattage, and power surge to protect your equipment. Or may be a dual voltage transformer. It is worth the trouble. you may or may not need it. Another thing APC. Automatic Power Source, this a battery that charged up power source, as you use your computer and the electricity is off, as it does in Treasure Beach from time to time, your system is automatically switched over/on when the main house power is down. You will be way ahead of the game.this will be good for fax, computer, game stereo or any other emergency applications
good luck

I bring my laptop from the UK and run it via a three-pin power surge adaptor on the 240v supply where I stay. I have also run it on the 120v Jamaican supply with a two-pin adaptor.

I have accessed the internet both through a 240v wireless router, brought over from the UK, and via the standard C&W DSL router, which runs off 120v.

Have never had a problem with any of the above (apart from the power cuts!).
