Dear Rebecca,
greetings from the cold to you, looking forward to some of that great sunshine soon.
Could you give me an update on the progress of the canal?
Have not seen much posted on it lately.
Many thanks.
Linda.
It's still large and unfinished. Surprise!!!!
Will they resume work soon? have they stopped for a specific reason? another update would be appreciated.
I can't answer for the government, although I suspect they've spent all the money on the World Cup. But I can add that at our urging, a senior U.S. engineer visited the site in late February, and concludes that finishing the job with concrete walls and floor is unnecessarily expensive, and that stone-filled wire-basket "gabions" will do the job at much less cost and provide some local work. With Earl's help a letter to the editor of the Gleaner will (we hope!) be printed soon, and at that point Rebecca can post it here too. Let's hope that if shown a less expensive way to finish the job, the government will find the money to do it!
Thank you.
Our morning walks took us by the canal. We spoke with the owner of Mar Blue who's property is adjacent to the canal as it enters the sea. He explained that the government still needs to procure the right of way through the properties between the road and where the canal currently ends coming from the pond. He also explained that the canal will be covered next to Mar Blue so there will still be access to the beach the way it used to be. He didn't seem particularily perturbed by the situation and spoke about it matter of factly. Of course my read on this could be totally wrong so I apologize in advance. I will post some pictures of the canal soon along with other images of Treasure Beach.
I finished posting a picture of the canal with other images of Treasure Beach and Little Ochie in the photo gallery under "harpomarc".
Enjoy!
Harpomarc,
thank you for your update and the beautiful pictures of the area and sunset.
N.W.A.has the o.k.to continue with the canal
across the property between Mar Blue and where
it stops so there is no problem there.
Uncle Bowl,
i will be home soon to give my OK also.
Linda.
