Local charity updates requested

Treasure Beach Forum: TB Runnin's: Local charity updates requested

My nearly seven year old daughter decided that instead of receiving gifts for herself on her upcoming birthday, she would like to share with the children of Treasure Beach. In lieu of a present from her school friends, she is requesting that they donate to a local charity. We were just reading through all the descriptions on the Community Groups page and (I) noticed that much of the info is outdated. I think it would be helpful if the information was kept up to date with small reports on completed, current and future projects as well as more detailed Needs Lists, including $$ to sponsor specific needs/requests. We will pick one charity, gather the $$ and send it altogether.

Our best wishes to all our friends in Treasure Beach...

I couldn't agree more Sarah. Please, please community groups, send us updated information so we can update the site.

Hello, Sarah. Your daughter sounds like a wonderful, unselfish person. Please know that the information on Treasure Beach Foundation in the Community Groups section of TB.net is current.

Right now, we have 29 students from the U of Virginia assisting at Sandy Bank Primary School; while this is one of our projects, none of our Foundation's funds have been expended in this effort.

Twenty-three grade six students from Sandy Bank will be sitting for their GSAT exams toward the end of March. Based upon their test scores and a multiplicity of other factors (e.g., motivation), we will be awarding scholarships to several (approximately five) of these students for the 2007/08 school year.

Any financial donations will be used with the utmost care -- and are sincerely appreciated.

I was in Treasure Beach for one month in December and prior to my arrival I shipped a barrel of school supplies to Hopewell Primary School in Watchwell. During my stay I visited this school which is in great need of assistance. They do not have a phone line, no computer lab or copier. They are short staffed with regards to teachers due to a lack of funds to pay salary. Additionally, they are in need of library materials and all the basics.
It seems that Sandy Bank receives a great deal of assistance while there are nearby schools in Saint Elizabeth that receive none. so, we may look at broadening our helping hand while still supporting Sandy Bank. Contact info for Hopewell Primary is as follows:Hopewell Primary School
Watchwell, St. Elizabeth
Verna Neil, Principal
Email:bernardneil@yahoo.com(Mrs Neil's husband's,he will give her messages). Anyone who may be interested I will provide her telephone # if you post your email address.

Thanks for the info. It is so difficult to choose, especially when there are needs all around. But every bit counts and most of all, the lessons learned by all involved will contribute to the development of thinking, caring, empathetic humans who are aware of the needs of those around them. I hope that by encouraging small efforts in my children, they will translate into grand efforts on behalf of humanity in their adult years.

hooked on TB, thanks a lot for mentioning the Hopewell School (and if it's you, A.C., then I hope you'll also be in TB in June, when we're coming for our honeymoon) :-)
Everyone who's interested in helping Hopewell School can also contact me at hopewell@soon-come.de. We have started to set up a homepage for them, but it's currently only available in German - a translation will definitely follow as soon as I have the time. German speakers can already find the info at http://www.soon-come.de/Hopewell.html
