Hi Chinnie, there is plan to have a reunion on July 28 of this year at the school. I spoke with members of the planning committee by telephone during one of their meetings in January. They are still finalizing plans for the day. The secretary Eric, assured me that as soon as the plans are finalized he will post them on this website. I have spoken with several past students who are excited about the reunion and are planning to be there. All persons who attended Newell (Secondary)High should consider this wonderful opportunity to go back and meet old friends at the place many of us first met.The school surroundigs have changed a bit but the memories of school life will remain the same- our wonder teachers and school mates.I did not realize how special my schoolmates and teachers are until I became an adult. Please spread the word of the reunion -Jamaica ,USA ,Canada,UK and other countries -back to our base for the reunion on July 28. See you there !

The Grand Reunion will be on Saturday, July 28, 2007 at the school as Mr White stated. We will have activities during the day, in the afternoon the Banquet and a Fete afterwards until you say when. We all look forward to as much past students as possible to attend. The school needs our support to ensure that the future generation will be beneficiaries of a school that they will be proud to attend. All proceeds will go towards the School Development Fund.

My advice to the organisers of the reunion: Go ahead with your plan, as scheduled!
You will never be able to meet everyone's timetable. Furthermore, as anyone who has been following this issue for sometime would know, there has been far too much chat on the part of some persons, and very little action!
To borrow from a popular banking ad running on American TV: "Don't just talk about it. Do it!"

It is always difficult to decide on a date that will suit everybody. I am not sure why that date was chosen by members of the planning committee in Jamaica but I am sure they put some consideration into it and thaught that would be a good time. Personnay, I had to reshedule some of my business and give this occasion priority and I understand some people might not be able to change previous plans. Many people that I have spoken with have already been making plans for July 28 since it was announced some weeks ago. I will communicate your concern with the planning committee.

Newellites who are not able to make it this year to the reunion and wish to make a contribution of cash are equipment will be able to do so soon.Dale Wright suggested that an international type account be set up; so that contributions could be made from just about anywhere, and that matter is to be discussed by the parent group in Jamaica soon.

Like someone suggested earlier I am suggesting also that our dear past teachers be invited.

It is only a pity the planning committe, did not do some more research, when they were deciding on July, 28,2007 the date for the Newell HS reunion.
Initally most of us who live outside of Jamaica, was discussing a date in or around December, this would give us more time to organize and arrange a few fundraising, ultimately, this would be more benefical economically for the school.
I am imploring Secretary Eric and his board to postpond July, 28 and reschedule a date in December. Forum please respond positively.

Hi Olivia, I remember you well. I look forward to seeing you too.I am sure you will see many of your old friends and meet new ones. I am aware that there are many past students of Newell who visit this website and plan to attend; although they never bother to post on this thread. Please ask Zekie my former classmate and head-boy to get in touch with me as I am not able to reach him at his former email address. I look forward to a good time with all those who can make it.

I want to thank you all for your interest in the Reunion. Unfortunately we are unable to postpone the date as the Committee thinks its the best time as many persons would be coming home for the Independence celebrations.
We hope to have our Annual Gospel Concert in December so if you miss the Reunion then you can be at the Gospel Concert.
We welcome any form of contribution that is possible.

Eric, like Olivia said a number of past students would love to have some of our former teachers at the reunion. At this time, can you say if NHSA is planning to invite at least some of them?

On another score Eric, I would think that the association could use some contributions to help in the planning of the reunion. I am therefore using this opportunity to encourage past students to contribute twentty bucks US are its equavalent for those abroad to help in this effort. Everybody's little help will go towards the upliftment of the school. The little we give could go a far way to help a child to find a path in life.

When planning a big event as a reunion you have to keep in mind the people that is coming from over sea? Plan a date and keep advertising it. I personally thinks it's a great idea, but next time give more notice.

Mae

Whatever strategy was used to determine the date of the reunion I am sure that not everyone would be in agreement. There would still be people complaining about the inconvenience etc., etc.The people planning this has put in a lot of time and consideration and I must commend them for reaching this far. It’s time to quit the small talk and do what you have to do. If you can’t make it then too bad. You will surely be missed but hopefully next time we will see you there. Be happy that this is happening and please give some positive support.

Thank you.
