Fourteen fishermen took a bus to the supreme court in Kingston, the reason Golden Sands owners still seeking money for damages. The judge postponed the case until the year 2009.
Tell me this is not a waste of tax payers money! And the poor fishemen money!

Can't we all get along, that judge is really smart, who says we don't have smart judges in Jamaica.

What are they going to court for?

This court case is a result of an incident which took place on the
beach in front of Golden Sands Guesthouse in late 2000 where local
residents and fishermen were protesting the proposal of a wall being
contructed further out from the existing wall located on Golden Sands
property. It is alleged that during the protest stones and debris were
thrown onto the Golden Sands property causing damages to the buildings
and property. The owners are seeking payment for the damages.

TB.Net realizes and appreciates the passions this court case flares.

How come this cannot go away. Why can't everyone in a tiny village as Treasure Beach live good and peaceful with each other.May God have mercy on each and everyone that is being affected by this.
As if "IVAN" never caused enough destruction and pain now this ugly wolf raises it's head.

??? I'm not familiar with this case at all. Why would the owner of Golden Sands be seeking damages from fisherman?

The fishermen caused large amount of damages to the goldensands property, and guests back in 1999. I was a guest staying at the Goldensands Guest House during that incidents,I had to run for cover, and one of my friend was hit with a bottle. Without mercy they pelted the property. Base upon my experience, if it was my property I would also be seeking compensation.
We got a refund and checked out the following day. We like Treasure Beach but refused to stay there any longer instead we went to Negril.

There are 2 sides to every story.

Just a note from the other side, my family and I have stayed at Golden Sands for many years in the past, Iwe have also have spent a great deal of time with a few of the TB fishermen & their families. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that the wall was to be extended toward the water, was going to block the fishermen their original access to the fishermens beach (their boats, unloading of fish to auto transport, ice, their means of supporting their families etc...)I myself choose to no longer stay at Golden Sands, for no reason other than my choice to support a hard working group that has long provided me and my family, good fish, great boat tours, good friendships, and what I consider a home away from home. I harbor no resentment against GS, only feel that they have sufficient space for their needs and should allow others to have theirs. Good luck and much respect to the TB fishermen.

The beach / shorline belongs to Jamaica. Not one person or business. When people try to capture the beach for their own purpose it will not be tolerated.
Can you imagine a concrete wall jutting out on the beach so people would have to walk around it to get by?
Not a pretty picture at all. I hope this can be resolved without any long term effects. Peace is the answer, not piece!!

Like many, this is the first time I'm hearing of this incident and, as a "native", this is the type of situation that really gets my attention. I agree 100% with True North's comments. Once upon a time we were able to walk unhindered along the beach from Calabash Bay to Great Bay and there was never a question of whether or not we were trespassing! I was therefore incensed at the erection of a seawall at Old Wharf (on the west side of the Panty Hole inlet) and was personally elated by its subsequent destruction by an equally angry Sea a few years ago. If hoteliers and their guests wish to enjoy our "simplicity" and hospitality, they MUST also be prepared to respect our culture, our traditions, and our rights as well. They must realize that without our traditional access to the beach, we will disappear as a culture and as a people. To that end, I support the fishermen in their endeavor, and hope that there will be a peaceful settlement in the case.

Thanks Greatbaybwoy for your input.
Let's be done with this topic now and move on to bigger and better things.

Somrthing constructive like the roads being fixed, so I won't get so much tire damage when I visit soon.
