So I've heard there are many places that were socked in with snow in the last few days. Let us hear where you are and how many inches you got.

Maybe I'll come up for a day and make a snowman, have a snowball fight, go sledding, go ice skating, make snow angels, . . .

Or maybe I'll just stay here and go for a swim in the sea.

Actually, as I was typing this I was remembering all the fun a big snow storm can be. As a child we would play in the snow until our snow suits were soaking wet and we were frozen. Then come in, peel them off and hang them by the wood stove to dry. We couldn't wait to get back into them and go back out to play in the snow.

As an adult, sitting by a roaring fire in the fireplace sipping on some hot chocolate, going for a long walk in the storm when the sounds are all hushed and you can actually hear the snow falling. Coming in from shoveling snow and eating a huge breakfast, my father-in-law taking us on long sleigh rides through the woods,. . .

Yeah, all great memories - but I do love my warmth and think I would freeze in a minute if I was up there now!

Any TB folks out there willing to share their experiences on what it was like to see snow for the first time?

OK, Rebecca, we just got 30 inches of snow in Kingfield, Maine on Wednesday - and strong winds to match the heavy snowfall. It was coming down at 2 inches an hour. The western mountains of Maine need the snow for tourism, just like you need good roads! Anyway, 11 more days untill we reach TB and the great atmosphere at Jakes. See ya then!

Rebecca, I'd take you up on that snowball fight, but it's TOO COLD out. We're supposed to see 35 degrees tomorrow, and compared to the last few weeks, that's going to feel downright balmy! I suppose it "could" be worse - like Mike's weather up there in the Canadian tundra, but its still a bummer.

All totalled in my neighborhood was about a foot or so of snow. Though the 6 foot pile of driveway snow from the plow suggests a bit more. My poor motorcycle is buried until June, I think.

To add insult to injury, Hampton Beach lost 5 houses in a fire. The mad winds carried the flames from cottage to cottage and demolished an entire block.

SO... no complaints from me. It's cold outside but my house is warm, my driveway is plowed, and it'll all be OVER SOON!!!!!!!! :-)

18 inches/the upper 5 being frozen concrete-like sleet on the seacoast of New England where temps are single digit.

It's 6 degrees in Saint Louis, MO.
We had a combo of snow and ice Monday and more for tomorrow.
St. Louis has the 2nd largest Mardi Gras celebration in the states and it's scheduled for tomorrow. Lots of slippin/slidin to be expected.

We are starting to pack today for our trip to TB next week.

Kelly

10 feet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are right - that is a snow storm!!!

Keep the reports coming - I've got goose bumps just from reading them. Of course, that is as I am sitting here in shorts and a sleeveless shirt, barefoot and looking at the sea . . .

Mair, having spent many a weekend at Hampton Beach as a teen - I am sorry to hear of the fire.

My first experience of snow and bitter cold was in December of 1972 when I travelled to Canada for the first time.I remembered my loving brother Kingsley coming to meet me at the Toronto Air Port and not bringing me a coat.I did have on a pair of boots but the soles were smooth and I was just slipping and sliding all the way to the car.I remembered walking to work not far from where we lived in Waterloo but, for me it was the worst walking I ever experienced because the snow had turned into ice and it was as if I just could not get any traction whatsoever.I thought for sure I was going to break my ankles or fall on my face.I lived there for ten years then moved to the United States to yet another cold/snowy state. Finally after taking a vacation with my husband and kids to Florida visiting Daytona Beach,Key West,Disney World and Naples we knew this was where we wanted to live.
I am here now in South Florida and I sit and watch TV and my heart goes out to all the people living in the north seeing how much snow/ice and cold they have to endure at this time.
My three beautiful daughters/sisters/brother and good friends envy me when I tell them how nice and warm it is here' just like it is in Jamaica but, today is cold for Florida's standard with the temperature falling into the low 40s.
I have to make a trip to Canada very soon and I'm not looking forward to facing that freezing weather they are having as I type this message.
SNOW IS BEAUTIFUL TO LOOK AT...BUT THAT'S IT FOR ME.

What a Jamaican wears to ward off northern winter

(Exhibit A: a friend who showed up yesterday,
post-storm, looking like the Michelin man):

3 pair boxer shorts, 1 fleece track pant, 1 nylon windcheater pant, 1 pair stylee jeans, 1 thermal undershirt, 2 flannel shirt, 1 sweater, 4 wool scarves, knit hat, long wool coat, gloves, boots, 3 pair socks == plus, sunglasses, natch.

.

It is important to invest in a good coat, boots and warm clothing. It's not necessary to wear layers if the investment is made. I am from TB and trust me, nothing looks better than an attractive person going to work, church, etc. during the cold months.

They used to laugh at me in Canada. My attire was the following: undershirt, t-shirt, turtleneck shirt, sweater, ski jacket, longjohns, jeans, snowpants, scarf, hat, gloves, two pairs of socks, and of course boots. I should mention that his all to get from my front door to my car (10 ft away). This was not...I repeat NOT to go tobogganing or any such thing. That's a whole other story. Anyway, thank God I'm now sitting in my t-shirt and shorts back home in JA.

A. Todd--
I envy you and I am thinking seriously of 'throwing' in the towel myself. God's continued blessings be yours.
