Hello Everyone ...
As you all know by now, I had a wonderful time over the Christmas/New Year's Holiday in Treasure Beach. The only down side was that I was terribly lonely for my side-kick Bentley who is a 18 pound miniature schnauzer. Is there anyone who has traveled to Jamaica with their pet who could contribute to my research on bringing Mr. Bentley in and out of the country? I know the first consideration would be to get permission from my hosts, but what then?
as far as i know, you will not be able to bring your pet into ja. there is no rabies on the island and they want to keep it that way, so it nearly takes an act of god to bring a pet in. some who are moving to the island and are prepared for the cost, i think you can now quarantine them on island, a few years back, they would have to be sent to england.
Dogs, unfortunately, are subject to a many months quarantine on island before release so Mr.Bentley
will have to be satisfied by a posh pet hotel in
the States.
You can't bring a pet to Jamaica. All animals domesticated or not must be in quarantine for 6 months (I believe the facility is in Kingston). There is no rabies in Jamaica, and they do this as a precaution when introducing animals to the island.

A good starting point would be this site (Jamaica High Commission), and you could follow up with them by e-mail and phone. My experience is that unless you buy your pet in Jamaica, it is very timely and costly to bring a pet to Jamaica.
Yes, I am also a dog lover and checked with the Jamaican department of agriculture--spoke with their vets. Amazing, even from Australia, where we also have never had a case of rabies, Jamaica will still not let a dog enter, not even a guide dog or seeing-eye dog.
As the vet said to me, the law needs revising for countries that do not have rabies or other diseases.
Australia does not even have Lepto which occurs in Ja. We are an island continent and have very strict quarantine regulations to keep diseases out.
Well, nothing to be done but accept it at this stage.
Oh no, boo hoo ... and here he is on my lap all excited while family and I are looking at the Buccaneer and other villas for later this year. Oh well, it is as it is. Thank you for the feedback.
