We are preparing to welcome 30 enthusiastic University of Virginia students to assist at Sandy Bank Primary School, Sandy Bank Basic School, and the Salvation Army Basic School.

Each of them is able to bring an additional suitcase filled with items for people in Treasure Beach.

Though they have been collecting things, most of the students have more room in their “extra” suitcase and are willing to transport your donations. Most items will be donated to the TB Women’s Group and will be sold at very nominal prices; the money raised will be used for the community projects sponsored by the Women’s Group. Some items will be given directly to students in the three schools.

Send your items via UPS or U.S. mail. They must be received no later than February 23 (earlier would be better).

As an added benefit, you will receive an acknowledgement that you can use as a tax deduction under U.S. IRS rules.

Clothing does not have to be new, but it must be in good, clean condition. Nothing should be “dry clean only.” Sizes can begin with infants and toddlers and go up to large adults. Here’s what’s most needed:

• Shoes (wide or medium widths)
• Dresses.
• Skirts.
• Blouses, shirts, t-shirts.
• Slacks and shorts (for boys and men).
• Underwear (yes!), including bras and slips.
• Socks.
• Knapsacks.
• Work books, coloring books, magic markers, crayons, pencils.
• Children’s books.
• Bibles.
• Hair ornaments, ribbons.
• Ester-type hats.

Here’s what is NOT needed:
• Anything fragile/breakable.
• Anything “dry clean only.”
• Jeans.
• Skimpy clothing.
• Jewelry.
• Toys, puzzles.

All items should be sent to:

What about toothbrushes? I have about 80-100 that I could send, if needed (or wanted)...

Those would be great, Patty. Please send them to Adrienne at the address above. Thanks!

I have infant clothing, how will these be distributed around TB?

Most probably, it will be sold at the Woman's Center. Please understand that their prices are very, very low. For example, a pair of good athletic shoes might cost $1 U.S. (They will price the items themselves as they see fit, so please don't quote me on this pricing.) The Women's Center has a store, and people truly enjoy the opportunity to select the items they want at rock-bottom prices. We have done this before, and word spreads throughout the community; people are actually waiting in line to see the all the new goods when they are displayed.

The pricing makes no difference to me, they could be given out for free if wanted. I just wanted to make sure they will be provided to the parents in need around the community.
Thanks
Tee

If you send anything to the University of Virginia students for Treasure Beach, and you itemize deductions on your tax return, please keep an itemized list (don't bother to enclose it with your package) of what you sent and assign reasonable values to your items. For example: 2 dresses @ $5 each; 4 baby blankets @$3 each; 20 workbooks @ $1 each. Be sure to enclose your name and address in the package. The students will send you a receipt for your donation. Attach this to the list you kept, and give it to your tax preparer when you're ready to do your 2007 taxes.

Great idea Karen! You're always looking for innovative ways to help, thanks for your dedication and love. My package will be on it's way this weekend.

Thanks to those who have already sent packages to Adrienne. And, please do not put my name on her packages. (She received one like that and thought it was something for her to transport to Treasure Beach for my personal use.) All items will be carried to Treasure Beach to be sold at the Women's Center. Your packages can be received until February 23. Again, send them to:
