Hi,
I am coming to Treasure Beach from the U.K. in April and was wondering how far I need to go to buy original 60s and 70s 45s and L.P.s. I am particularly interested in first pressings on any of Coxsone Dodds labels or Treaure Isle. Is Kingston the only place?

There is a really good "record" shop up in Santa Cruz (two taxi ride from Treasure Beach - TB to Black River, Black River to Santa Cruz). I have brought back a ton of vinyl for a DJ friend of mine over the years. Neat city to go to as well (hottest place in St. Elizabeth though!!)

I don't know the name of it, but just ask the taxi driver as he can probably steer you in the right direction, it's not a big city!

Black River has a few CD (burned compilations) shops.... it is a popular way for tourists to take home music without having to buy a lot, although I am against burning and not supporting local and international artists alike, they seem to be very popular shops.

Kingston probably offers the best assortment of record shops that you are looking for, but to get there (and around safely) is very expensive.

Just ask around... might be some older fellas who would part with some of their collection (that they can replace) to make a few bucks.

Good luck!

I agree Redkite; this is such a cool site and I am learning so much...thanks to everyone...it is so enjoyable whenever I visit this site so imagine once we visit Treasure Beach; As us Aussi's have been saying during the recent cricket Ashes tour "bring it on!
Speaking of cricket, it was great yesterday, when the older cricketers of the West Indies and Australia played beach cricket on the famous gold coast in Queensland Australia. Guys like Jole Garner, Viv Richards and other classic cricketers were out here.
