Anyone stayed at Rasta Ranch &/or Sea Ranch in Bluefields? They look like lovely little cottages with a private beach but I have never heard anything about the Bluefields area? Is it a nice beach? Safe? How far is it from Treasure Beach if you wanted to hang out there some?
Also, has anyone stayed at button Bay in Fort Charles. Looks interesting but also looks like it may be a rocky beach?
Thanks for any & all information.

First opening at either Sea/Rasta Ranch is
currently 7 April. There is a small private
beach -- Bluefields Beach is about a 5 min.
minibus or 10 min.walk away and is largely
deserted except on weekends. The private sun
pavilion for guests fronts the ocean with 12-15 ft good swimmable/snorkellable waters out to first reef, a mile out. Seakayaks and seabeds
for guest use. Bluefields Bay/Belmont is about 1.5 hours before Treasure Beach (60 min.from MoBay and Negril equidistant). Private compound
with resident manager/guide/touring/airport meeting driver, 3x/week housekeeper, helpful yardies, night security
service.
Drivers, cooks, masseuses, hiking/birding guides available.

Thanks tivertonhouse. The place sounds great. Do you know what round trip pick up from MoBay runs (aprox)?

Figure on US$50-60 + driver tip each-way MoBay
to Horizon with a PPV insured/certified driver
who'll meet you at airport, stop in MoBay to let
you change currency at better than airport rates,
do some marketing if you wish -- and also en route at roadside fruit/veg stands. Norma's a few chain from Horizon has a small selection;the shop in Belmont Square and a small market in opposite direction would let you stock up. Ann Lyon's Culloden Cafe is a 15 min.drive away. Trevor
Wiggin, one of the property yardies, is also
a local driver. We book it -- but I've stayed there for the past 12 years or so, if not more,
very very happily. It's different than
TB, a little hidden gem. The only other
oceanfront accomodations around are the
stoosh Villas at Bluefields, starting at
US$4,000/week. They're on the opposite
side of Bluefields Beach, about 1 mile from
Horizon. Closer, wihtin 15 min., The Peter Tosh Mausoleum, a simple shrine; chatting up
Willie Fielding the Brit artist at Oristano
House, one of the earliest buildings on
island; horseback riding
at Busha Clarke's;hiking Mt.Cave with Wolde
Christos;checking out the new sculptures
Gerry's done (see some of his work at the
opening of the Mermaid Gallery in TB);
snorkelling out to Crab Pond Point -- you
can find some sweet pleasures here, including
one of the best collections of Jamaican
art on the South Coast, with work by Susan
Schatter, Ras-Dizzy, Kapo and others in
the cottages and the main villa and on
the grounds.
