At the start of the 90's when $ was a'flowin',
a friend who ran a grocery decided to go into
the guesthouse business. In TB.
We spoke and I advised a low cost structure.
Adjoining veg garden, ponds, gazebos, and such
things that my guests and personal experience
had suggested.
The design included solar water heating, solar
cell (photovoltaic) supplied electricity stored
in deep cycle batteries, recycled grey water and
even considered a composting toilet.
They went the way of big money, small dormitory
rooms (pack em in) and a well swept and dry yard
space. There was a struggling Wild Orange!
A decade and a half later, no guests, many
visits from the once smiling loan officer, many
tranquilizers, the Taxman natch and a monthly
payment of interest on interest and interest
on penalties, misc charges etc etc........
The moral of the story....
Keep it simple and be careful of smiling money!!
