Use of the spell check.

Treasure Beach Forum: TB Runnin's: Use of the spell check.

Hi Rebecca,

I hope I do not come under fire for this, but as a native of Treasure Beach, may I please implore my fellow citizens to please re-read and correct their message before posting it. No one is perfect and I myself make mistakes at times but it is so obvious that some of us are not bothered to check what we write. If you are unsure then you can always use the spell check.

Hi Oops the best of Us at times get things wrong, In all the cases I've seen I know what the person or persons wanted to say. I've done it without knowning. I think this is no biggie. Writers have proof readers and even they get it wrong.

Hi Oops teh bset os us at tmies gte thnigs wrogn.

Hi Mispelt, I totally agree with Oops'suggestion and I am also advising individuals to only use words he\she understand.

So please don't get bent out of shape over constructive criticism.

I have to agree with Rebecca. It adds a little flavor and grace when we try our best to use correct spelling and grammar; plus we communicate better (which is really our goal) in using TB net. Here's a little tip: Write out the message first (in microsoft Word or whatever program), edit, then cut and paste onto the web.

If you add the Google tool bar to your web browser it includes a spell check function. It will check your post, identify miss-spellings, show correct spelling of the word and with a "click" replace it. Quick, easy and free. http://www.google.com/tools/firefox/toolbar/index.html?promo=mor-tb-en

Athough I agree that reading properly spelled messages is easier than deciphering some of the errors that pop up in posts, I also know that there are plenty of people who have limited writing and spelling skills. I wouldn't want people to feel that they cannot post here if their writing isn't 'perfect' ... whatever that might mean. Yes, people should read over their messages before posting them to be sure they've been as clear as possible, but this forum is for everyone, and we've done a pretty good job of understanding each other so far, haven't we?

Google failed you. It's "mispelling", not "miss-spelling".

Well Ku unoo tu, Miss Louise B, God rest her soul, no dead good, unoo
all gone speakie spokee,
For the record I speak perfect english and consequently I am often accused of masquerading as a jamaican, Which needless to say I find quite annoying, because (I AM)

Hey English is okay but
"long live Patois" bad spelling and all !!!

I checked some posts with recent additions and found many words the spell check would not know. I like the Jamaican flavor better.

Examples:
yardie
mek she collek di moni
blessup
big up
tek it easy

I would like to see proper spelling when posting but, at the same time do not forget that most people from Jamaica spell according to the way they pronounce words. Please do not make an issue of this, at least they are trying to get their messages across and that's all that matters. Unfortunately we all did not or could not afford to attend school because of circumstances beyond our control.Just read and enjoy who gives a "HOOT"we are not writing to the President or the Prime Minister of a country.

@English Teacher
you are so right !!

Please donīt discourage people to write on this board, just because their spelling is not so good....

The original creater of this issue him/her self has mispelt, and used incorrect grammar. So how can they make conscious judgement, or constructive criticism...I am with you Blair. I am well educated, but hey I can cut into my patois when I am good and ready....aw wha dis, pan di people dem forum..Where I live and work in the US my potois comes in handy, especially now that I have found a fellow jamaican that works at my job. When we need to get away from everyone, we just cut inna weh patois. Just remember I am a professional Jamaican, but I have not forgotton where I came from.

People, People...
Where is all of this coming from.We don't have to get so upset about someone making a suggestion as to how we can correct some of what we write. There is a time and place for everything and surely we would want to portray our best on our own website. Yes there are those of us who are less fortunate than others when it comes to reading and writing .The suggestion was merely meant to help those who have a little problem with their grammar or spelling, not to discourage anyone from participating. We all speak our Patois and I am sure we are all proud of it , but my goodness, why do we have to be so defensive because someone gives us a little suggestion as to how we can make our articles more presentable ? Don't forget that all throughout our lives people have had to correct each other and there were times when others had to show us ,teach us and suggest ways and means whereby we can improve ourselves.Let us all exercise our intelligence where this article is concerned. Can't we at least do it in the name of love ?

Oops -- I agree with your 100%. We all learn from our mistakes, so let's take the correction in the name of love.

I have made an error myself. Sentence should read: I agree with you 100%, not I agree with your 100%. Although I am a fairly good proof reader, I was certain the word was correct, so you see it's important to use spell check or a dictionary. Let's enjoy our evening and stop trying to step on each other's corn.

I say change the subject and talk about some of the greater griefs in the world or some good jokes to lighten our spirits. Here are some (CLEAN) ones about teenagers

A Teenager is...

A person who can't remember to walk the dog but never forgets a phone number.

A weight watcher who goes on a diet by giving up candy bars before breakfast.

A youngster who receives his/her allowance on Monday, spends it on Tuesday, and borrows from his/her best friend on Wednesday.

Someone who can hear a song by Madonna played three blocks away but not his mother calling from the next room.

A whiz who can operate the latest computer without a lesson but can't make a bed.

A student who will spend 12 minutes studying for her history exam and 12 hours for her driver's license.

A youngster who is well informed about anything he doesn't have to study.

An enthusiast who has the energy to ride a bike for miles, but is usually too tired to dry the dishes.

A connoisseur of two kinds of fine music: Loud and Very Loud.

A young woman who loves the cat and tolerates her brother.

A person who is always late for dinner but always on time for a rock concert.

A romantic who never falls in love more than once a week.

A budding beauty who never smiles until her braces come off.

A boy who can sleep until noon on any Saturday when he suspects the lawn needs mowing.

An original thinker who is positive that her mother was never a teenager.
