Has anyone stayed at Great Escape villa? If so, what is it like?
My family of 7 had the opportunity to stay at Great Escape the first week of April 2005. We had the most relaxing vacation ever and plan on going back in April of 2007. We enjoyed the delicious meals prepared daily, sampling the local cuisine while special dishes were prepared especially for my 4 & 7 year old children. We relaxed on the beach everyday taking in snorkeling, sand castle building, a boat trip down the Black River to watch alligators, or a walk to the local bar to enjoy a drink. Great Escape has a driver who took us to the local waterfalls one day and to Jake's at Treasure Beach for supper another evening. We spent most of our time in the pool or on the deck area gazing at the beautiful scenery and the sun sets which were "Awesome"!
Thank you very much for this good information, Cathy.
How did you like the food at Jake's?
We all had something different. The kids had pizza and each of the adults had a seafood dish. Their soups were incredible! We all had ice cream for dessert. I highly recommend!
Cathy - thanks. Again, we appreciate your prompt repsonses to our questions.
I have only had breakfast and drinks at Jakes. The poridge, fruit salad and frozen drinks were excellent.
At Jack Sprats I've had pizza & conch soup (both very good). The beer is $$ here.
I enjoyed a number of excellent (& cheap meals) at Dinners Delight & The Pot Snapper.
Breakfast is great at the Heart of Love (former Trans Love Bakery).
Treasure Veiw (up in South Field) has an amazing view as well as good food (atleast when I was there / haven't been there in a couple of years) The prices used to be very cheap (some local friends tell me it has gotten more expensive)
Don't forget about Morris's (across from Golden Sands) breakfast and lunch. His ackee is awesome as well. And his prices are low.
Nurse Ratchet, would you drop me an email please? (I've gone through about 3 years of TB.net posts and apparently, you've never posted yours) hehe. i just have a quick question for you - nothing of any dire nature.
Mair,
I sent you an e-mail.

I need to try his place for breakfast sometime. I have gone in his shop to buy groceries when I stayed at Shakespear. He was always very helpful (went out of his way to help) I was looking for a bottle of Appleton. He didn't have it. He phoned the lady that runs the bar in that same plaza to come in and sell me one. Nice guy !
Another time my stepson was giving some argument in his shop. He spoke sternly to him and that was the end of the argument.
o0o0o I second that... Morris's makes a meeeean ackee n' saltfish. (mouth watering just thinkin' about it)
-sigh-
Too bad ya cant grow ackee trees in new hampshire.
I third that.... Morris make a mean ackee and saltfish the best.

Oooo How could I have forgotten about Morris's coffee! That stuff will grow hair on your chest for sure (whether you want it there or not!) hehehe YummY
Ever notice his remedy for flies? Plastic baggies with water in them, set on each table. He didn't have em out earlier this year when I was there, but the previous year they were... and they worked (i thought so anyways) lol
I miss TB. =(

Uncle Morris, always helpful and with a smile
I miss you
Hope to see you soon....

When I was in Jamaica I went to Morris coffee shop I had his ackee 'n ' saltfish with coffee was so good. When I come back to Treasure Beach that's the first place I am going.
I will be coming to Treasure Beach soon, I would like to try that good ackee 'n' saltfish.
I stopped at Morris' shop several times during my last visit to TB ... but never to eat, always to ask for some help--information, adjusting the seat on the bike I had rented, removing a macca (spelling?) thorn that had stabbed up through the sole of my shoe into my foot (ouch!)--and he was so nice, so helpful. Next time, I'll be sure to stop for some of this famous ackee and saltfish!

Morris is the sweetest guy- when I was there back in may I fel ill suddenly whilst waiting for my food (nothing to do with his breakfast honest!)
he was so kind- he made a peppermint tea for me and gave my boyfriend a takeout pancakes and bacon breakfast, and was really concerned for me!
Nice guy
These are all interesting posts, but apart from the August 24 post by Cathy, do not answer my original question, which started this thread: Who has stayed at Great Escape, and how did did you like it? Any more reports about the place, or anything you can add to what Cathy has to say? Thanks!
Morris has the remedy for everything, i was there and he gave me a creme for my mosquitoe bites. It was so good. His breakfast is the best, and he really is a nice guy.
Oh it good to know there is a good coffee shop I could go when I go to Jamacia. Thanks for the information.
We stayed at Great Escape back in 2001 and had a fantastic time. Rambo and Anne looked after us very well and the place is fantastic. The little bar opposite is a great place, take some mosquito spray for the evenings when at the bar!!
