I AM CURIOUS, IS BIG GROUND TREASURE BEACH?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By BEAUTIFUL TREASURE BEACH on Monday, May 15, 2006 - 05:35 pm: Edit Post

Know. Big Ground is not in Treasure Beach,i think this is funny why every one want to live in Treasure Beach, yes it is beautiful because i am from there, i met a lady from Newell in florida and we start talking about Jamaica and i ask her where she was from, she answer with such pride I AM FROM TREASURE BEACH Newell,I look at her and ask where in Jamaica is Treasure Beach Newell i told her i know of a beautiful place name treasure beach and that' where i am from and the high school that i went to is newell high, and that is was in a district name Newell she was very embarris so i change the subject, and it not the first time this happen i met people from beacon that told me they are from Treasure Beach, and i will look right in there eyes and said Beacon is not treasure beach and they would say a lot of people dont know beacon but they know Treasure Beach that's why i told every one i am from Treasure Beach.

You're, right Big Ground is not in fact in Treasure Beach proper. But it is, as I said before, just a few minutes drive to Frenchman Beach, the main beach in Treasure Beach. So I stand corrected--the land is located in Big Ground, a few minutes outside Treasure Beach. Let's just say it's in the Treasure Beach area. And a whole lot closer to the "action" than Billy's Bay or Great Bay, both sections of Treasure Beach proper that happen to be farther away from the "main drag!"

A few Districts that are in close proximity to Treasure Beach use Treasure Beach P.O. and sometimes instead of going into to details when ask where from some folks said Treasure Beach because it's a part of their mailing address. I am from one of these communities, have never said I am from there, dont have a problem with anyone who's saying so and not saying it's right to do so. The communities that are in close proximity are within walking distances closely tied to Treasure Beach because of businesses and Real Estates When I was growing up i was told that Bigground was one mile from Frenchman (Sinners Bench, exactly). Now I have grown up I believe it's three miles. Inside or closeby Treasure Beach, we are all from beautiful St. Bess. Treasure Beach P.O. is in Pedro Plains how do we explain that?

THE REASON FOR THAT WHEN MR DICKER OPEN THE TREASURE BEACH HOTEL THEY NEEDED A POST OFFICE FOR THE VISITORS SEND THERE MAIL, NOT TO CONFUSE THE VISITOR HE ASK THE GOVERNMENT TO NAME THE POST OFFICE AFTER THE HOTEL,THAT'S WHAT HAPPEN,THE HOTEL WAS THE ONLY PLACE THAT USE TO USED THAT NAME,THEN MR DICKER ASK THE PEOPLE OF BILLYS BAY,CALABASH BAY,GREAT BAY,FRENCHMAN IF THEY WOULD LOVE TO CALL THESE AREA TREASURE BEACH,

Some folks from Billy's Bay and Frenchman area of Treasure Beach LOVE Bigground when it' Ackee, Mango and Cashew time. They just "walk on down".

Some use to love Mass Melford sweet, dried pumpkins.

Treasure Beach is a great community, but let us not lose sight of the fact that without the neigbouring communities of Beacon, Little Park, Newell and Big Ground, (to name a few), Treasure Beach would lose some of its flavour. These neighbouring districts provide schools, clinics, churches, farm produce, gas stations, etc. Let us practise the concept of being good neighbours and not get carried away with geography. Now where were we? I believe we were trying to sell a piece of land in beautiful Big Ground. Let us get on with it, Shall we?

Yes, the land is still for sale. Any inquiries regarding the Big Ground property should be directed to Mr. Henry Lewis at the telephone number stated in the first message. Take care.

Yes, let's get on with the selling of the land. No need to be territorial, no need to be politcally correct - Calabash Bay P.A. is in Sandy Bank, Pedro Crossing is in Watchwell which is further away from TB than Newell, some areas of New Savannah which is a stone's throw from TB are surveyed and listed by the Land Valuator's Office as TB, likewise some areas of Greenfield as Fort Charles. I met folks from the TB proper areas who were back home visiting and told me they live in Miami. When I came to Miami I found they live in Fort Lauderdale but, it was easier to assoicate themselve with Miami because Air Jamaica at the time only flew out of Miami to Jamaica. Once Air Jamaica started flying out of Ft. Lauderdale they started to say they live in Miami.

Let's embrace the growth, the prosperity and the transitions of the plains, the hills, the valleys and the beaches of South St. Elizabeth.

Regarding my posting 11:10 am today, I meant to say they started saying they live in Ft. Lauderdale once Air Jamaica started flying out of Ft. Lauderdale

Dear Outsider:

I say Amen. I couldn't have said it better myself. It's like so many Jamaicans abroad claim they live in Kingston when asked, 'Where in Jamaica are you from?' Perhaps they know something I don't kinow, but I am from the heart of the country, and I am so proud. I love the goats, the donkeys, the hillside, the sight of the old kitchen smoke climbing the cool, brisk country air, the old lady's lilting voice, "Lawd me pickney, me pack up a pain." I love the children bathing in the old lazy river.I love the roast fish (preferably turbit)cooked on open flame, then the freshly-squeezed lime juice soaking in. I love country folks coming together, streaming in twenty-four seven to comfort those who mourn the death of a loved one. And I could go on...

To: Robert.
Is where the land is, affected by loud music at times from the local bar and/or restaurant?
What are you selling the land for? (if you do not wish to post that on tb.net, then please put an email and I will contact you directly).

I would say buy the land and do your own land scape.Plant trees ,shrubs, flowers and make your own lawn.
How does this sound?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By My Opinion on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 - 03:58 pm: Edit Post

That is the piece of land directly to the west of Rainbow Tree. I think it was a lot prettier before someone decided to beautify it by taking out a lot of nice trees and running a bulldozer over the tops of the dunes. Sometimes it's better not to fool with Mother Nature.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Trees Ripped Out on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 - 01:26 pm: Edit Post

There is no loud music or other sound disturbance on the land in question for sale by Robert. Unfortunately, the dunes have been flattened. Most disturbingly, many of the very slow growing plantings including lignum vitae trees have been ripped out; the new owners will probably not live long enough to see replacement lignum vitae trees growing to any semblance of maturity. Other varieties may spring up but the damage has been done. [Edited by TB.Net]

I hardly think that anyone can improve on what our creator has created for us already - so why mess with nature? :-)

That's how it sounds to me since you asked.....

There are two villas for sale in close proximity to the land in question. They are both on the seaside, one to the east of Rainbow Tree and one to the west. One has almost two acres, and the other has a bit over an acre. The advantage is each costs less than the unimproved land, each comes with a furnished villa and each has an asking price less than the plain land for sale.

I found this discussion while looking for land in the TB area. I noticed on a bike ride that La Casa Duna is still for sale. Who would I get in touch with to ask about price?

Also, while I'm asking, I'm looking for property or houses for sale in the area, preferably close to the water. Any leads???

To mnken: It depends on whether it's property/land or a house. Our cap is $300,000US. We are looking for a small piece of land on which we can build a home, or a small house that we can stay in when we come each winter. Any leads would be appreciated.

I would place your search in the hands of a real estate professional who knows Treasure Beach. I believe MNKEN is one of them. Years ago there were few realtors working in our area but things have changed. A real estate professional will work to get you the best possible deal. Too many owners have a greatly inflated idea of what their property is worth but can give you no facts and figures to substantiate the price. As important, you need someone very knowledgeable in Jamaican law to guide you through all the different rules. As an FYI, I am not a real estate professional and I am not affiliated with any of them.

Wow 'Use a professional" I am humbled and proud...Thank you. Cali Girl, I am from Minnesota, and own a RE/MAX in Jamaica. Just want you to know things are alot different in Jamaica than the US. In Jamaica, you really need to be careful, not only dealing with a seller but also with a Realtor. There are still people who claim to be Realtors, but may not even have their real estate license, let alone being a Realtor. Happens alot. And keep in mind that St. Bess has more unregistered property than any parish. Never attempt to buy unregistered property. You will have a long road that will end in dissapointment. Never even consider a property unless you see a copy of the title with a Volume and Folio number.

Anyone looking for land, or a house in or around Treasure Beach, please be advised that building prices increase so often and so fast that there is no way in creation I could build my house today. Whereas, with building costs already "sunk" in an established property, the worldwide real estate recession could really be an advantage for buyers willing to purchase land with a house already on it. I guarantee you could not build this house today for what I am asking for it:
Go either here http://www.viviun.com/AD-176282/
or see "House and Land for Sale" on Treasurebeach.net site.

People buying, living or building on the sea edge, please be aware that there are hawksbill sea turtles that use our coast line to nest. Please do not fence them off from their traditional nesting areas which tend to be under the sea grapes or dense bush and are sometimes up to 25 meters inland from the high water mark. If you feel the need for a fence, try to make a way that the turtles can get under or around it.
