I have a suggestion. Could a Treasure Beach youth group be formed? There are so much young people in Treasure Beach, they could come together and do some REAL POSITIVE THINGS?

Sherice , Great suggestion. Why dont you spear- head this. Get permisssion fron Sandy Bank Elementary Principal or any othre free venue, advertise it, tell your friends and tell them to tell a couple of friends of theirs, before long you will have a house full please have an agenda at to what will be discussed and go from there, Sorry I live in USA and not a citizen of Jamaica, I would have loved to lend a helping hand.
Good Luck and take care

This is a good idea. However, in case you are not aware, most Churches if not all have a Youth Group. We concentrate on mostly Biblical Activities, but we also do other activities. It is alarming how the young people are channelled in so many other areas, some which are not good for them, so this is a good medium for them to be groomed. At my Church we have regular Treats - I can tell you - kids love to be treated nice and special. Right now we are planning a little Fun Day on the Beach. They are also a part of the planning process. What I find lacking in Treasure Beach is that a lot of our youngsters don't read very well. Maybe we can get some volunteers to assist these young kids who miss out - because the classrooms are so packed and the teachers cannot give one to one attention as they would have liked. Especially with Summer coming up - even 2 days a week for a couple hours.

Ms Rose, Churches are great, but some other avenues are also needed. Parents this is your chance to step up to the plates, that means stand up and be counted, get out and make suggestions, your contribution will bring Treasure Beach inhabitance together, it takes a village to raise a child not just the parents.
Regarding reading, Charity begins at home, if you parent read newspapers, magazine and likes pass it on down to your children, they may just learn a vocabular or two,ask him or her questions as to what was read, teachers can only do so much, I can bet that if a teacher see that a parent is streching a helping, the impetus is there to reward a trying child and the teacher will notice that the parent are concern in the education of their kids.
If the parents cannot read, they should seek help fron some relative or family members that can. Read to your dodlers, plant the seed , cultivate the habit when they are young, a reading child is a progressive and successful adult. Encourage you kids to use the school library or any library for that matter. It worths it weight in more than gold. If you parent cannot read it is not too late, find an avenue to join the 21st century crowd

I agree with you SojiO, that is why I say we need some Volunteers to help with this important task of assisting our youths to read. Some parents themselves cannot read, this is true, however, some don't know how to impart the basic skills to stimulate these young minds, and some don't see the importance. We know that this is the most important skill to develop for progressing academically and also to simply live normally in this world. Can you imagine - seeing a sign 'Hot!! do not touch' and they can't read it -Oh my God - it is so heart rending. Are there any volunteers out there - who would go into the Communities or a Community and sift out the non-readers and say 4 hours per week etc. etc.? I am sure life will be more fulfilling than for us to say that TB kids are illiterate, what are we doing to help?
