WHAT HAPPEN TO THE PEOPLE OF TB, ARE WE SATISFIED WITH THE PRESENT CONDITION OF THE ROADS BY STATION AND MR. FRED WARD? ARE WE GOING TO JUST SIT AND LET ANOTHER HURRICANE SEASON COME AGAIN WITHOUT THE ROADS BEING FIXED? DO WE WANT TO BE CUT-OFF FROM THE OUTSIDE WORLD? CONSIDERING IT IS A TOURIST AREA ON TOP OF THAT. WHY AM I WRITING ANYWAY, AS I BELIEVE THAT 90% OF THE TB DON'T ACCESS THIS WEBSITE AND CONTRIBUTE BY GIVING THEIR VIEWS, IT IS MOSTLY ACCESSED AND UTILIZED BY FOREIGNERS. NEVERTHELESS I MUST VENT MY DISGUST. WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO? WE PAY TAXES TOO. THIS IS GOING ON FOR 2 YEARS NOW. WHAT HAPPEN TO THE VILLA OWNERS, AREN'T YOU ALL ASHAMED TO BE INVITING AND ACCOMODATING TOURISTS IN THIS BEAUTIFUL VILLAGE, WITH SUCH HORRIBLE AND LIFE THREATENING ROADS? WHAT HAPPEN TO THE MEN IN THE COMMUNITY WHO DRIVE UP AND DOWN THE ROADS, ARE YOU ENJOYING THE SMOOTH RIDE ON THIS ROAD? WHAT HAPPEN TO THE WOMEN? GUESS EVERYONE IS TIRED OF TALKING, TALKING, TALKING. CAN SOMEONE SERIOUSLY GIVE US A DATE WHEN THEY WILL FIX THIS ROAD AGAIN. THE OTHER PROMISES HAVE EXPIRED.

Road Angel, please supply us with the names and phone numbers of who we should be asking these questions of. Maybe if we know where to direct the questions, we will be able to get some answers or at least provide pressure to the appropriate agencies for action to be taken.

Three accidents have occurred on that bad stretch just below station in the last 2 weeks. I agree. something needs to be done. However, if it is just a patch job, the same wash out will occur the next time we have heavy rainfall. We need a permanent solution and not a quick fix.

REBECCA - I UNDERSTAND THAT A MR. HENDRICKS FROM THE NATIONAL WORKS AGENCY IN BLACK RIVER VERBALLY MADE A CONVINCING COMMITTMENT TO A GROUP OF PEOPLE IN TB AT JACK SPRAT DURING A PARTY, SAYING 2 WEEKS HE WOULD START WORKING (THAT'S OVER 2 MONTHS NOW). MR. JAKES WAS EVEN THERE. COME ON WE NEED ACTION NOW AND NOT A "BAG A MOUT". ON TOP OF THAT IT WAS PROMISED ON THE MICHAEL SHARPE PROGRAMME ON TV BY SOME POLITICIANS. COME ON, PEOPLE OF TB WHO HAVE THE POWER, PLEASE TALK UP FOR THE OTHER PEOPLE WHO DON'T HAVE ANY. THEY ARE BELIEVING THAT WE ARE 'ENJOYING THE RIDE'.
BYE BYE - ROAD ANGEL.

Road Angel,
Have you tried doing anything yourself or talked to anyone to try and get the roads fixed. It's sounds as if all you are doing is complaining and nothing else. Yes, I'm sure the natives and foreigners agree that the roads need to be fixed but maybe if you inquire more on who we can address the issue to, we can all work together....

@Road Angel
Thanks for telling your opinion. This deserves to be supported, but I think you should say WHO you are.... so that we know who we are supporting...

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By G-Man on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 - 03:29 pm: Edit Post

It should not matter who we are supporting as long as we support the roads being fixed. I don't think anyone would be against that. It seems that nobody knows who is responsible for fixing the road. Maybe continuous venting will get the attention of the person responsible or a phone number at which that person can be contacted.

That is a wonderful point that road angel brought up, I am a female native of Treasure Beach, I recently went to t/beach on vacation and trust me,my heart was in my mouth when I had to drive that road, especially right by Ms. Joyce and going a bit towards station, all I did was pray to God to allow me to pass that little stretch of road without going over the ditch or getting in an accident. However, if the politians aren't doing anything, I would suggest that we, as a community get together and do a donation, maybe try and get some sponsors and or some sort of fund raising, just some ideas for us to think about.

Perhaps the best person to contact is Milton Hodelin, CEO of the National Works Agency (NWA), which, I believe, is the agency responsible for that road.

The telephone number for the NWA is 926-3210 to 9

We can raise money for all types of tourist realtes issues, why can't we raise some money to get some mall and even put in those POT HOLES that are mashing up the vehicles. Where is Danny Buchannan when we need him?... I agree with Earl many other parts of Jamaica needs help, BUT LORD THE ROAD DEM A PEDRO BAD.

I find it completely and utterly LUDACRIS that we have people constantly suggesting that Mr. JAKES do something about the condition of the roads in T/Beach... If we stop for a moment and realistically look at the situation, not only would it be COMPLETELY UNFAIR but also RIDICULOUS for Jason to be the ONLY businessman in the community to address this problem with the relevant authorities..In T/Beach we have a number of PROSPEROUS business owners who sit back for the ride and expect Jason who isn't originally from T/Beach BUT loves the community and has ALWAYS gone ABOVE & BEYOND his fair share of input in OUR community... Yes we ALL know he is VERY kindhearted and tries to help in any which way he can BUT how about the other business people who are doing so well for THEMSELVES and doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FOR THE COMMUNITY.. Before Jason moved to T/Beach everyone looked forward to the annual stage show at Great Bay with a boat race... Now since Jason has come in..WE ALL look forward to the TRIATHLON,FISHING TOURNAMENT,NEW YEAR'S PARTY, CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING, EASTER PARTY and last but not least CALABASH.. Also the expansion of the school, sidewalks for our children, more small people benefiting from the Tourist dollars, poor people get houses, fishing boats, and now working on a Sports Park for the community and should your family get sick "Who yuh gonna call???" NOW, you really and truly want this man Mr. Jason Henzell to shoulder the responsibility of ensuring the relevant authority repair the roads?????

You have gone way beyond the call of duty, already!

Hi Terry,

You have the ability to sit and put together this wonderful e-mail about what Jason has done to bring visitors into the community. The reason why people are calling on Jason is because he is a member of the TOURIST BOARD. Certain people voices gets heard, if we have tourist we must have roads look at Montego Bay roads, you believe it's the business people who was ranting and raving or was it Bush Stuart? who called for action.

Earl has provided us an e-mail please use your writing skills and say your part to that e-mail address, after all, like you said we all have a voice.

Terry, I don't think anybody is really asking Jakes to fix the road. It is our tax dollars should fix the road.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Rebecca on Thursday, April 27, 2006 - 11:07 am: Edit Post

Thank you Earl for that email address. I have just sent an email off to Mr. Hodelin along with photos showing the damaged roads. I encourage everyone else to send Mr. Hodelin a constructive message asking for a progress report.

Kudos to you Terry, I couldn't agree more. I'm sure Jason (and anyone else who travels these roads daily) would choose to have them fixed as soon as possible. As I am taking a break from figuring out my March taxes owed to write this, I believe we should look to the government to fix the roads and not depend on donations from the private sector. There are so many worth causes out there who benefit from donations, I feel the roads should be the government's responsibility.
Let us put pressure on the relevant authorities to make a change and not throw negativity at folks who have limited influence on the situation.

To Frenchman's/Canada: What tourist related issues have we raised money for? Over the years I have heard of two tourists drowning and have heard of numerous Jamaicans drowning, so I am very happy to see the life-saving program such a success. I am especially pleased to know there will be life guards on duty during the holidays when many Jamaicans come to enjoy the beach and sea. I know I am guilty of begging money for the Treasure Girls cricket team, but no tourists there. The Treasure Beach Women's Group raises money to help the less fortunate within the community, bring training classes to members of the community and bring in health clinics for the community to take advantage of. BREDS has many projects going. One of my personal favorites is the ambulance service. I don't know the statistics, but I would bet that more residents have been transported in that ambulance than tourists. Caring tourists have helped to fund many of the above mentioned projects, and for that I am thankful.

I try not to voice my opinion often, but for this I have to. Let us all come together in a constructive way in an effort to make change. Put pressure on the appropriate authorities in the hopes of the squeaky wheel gets the smooth roads. Let us not point fingers at others and ask them to take control, but let all of us come together and make a positive difference.

I AM APPALLED THAT SOMEONE SHOULD BE ASKING ME TO IDENTIFY MYSELF. WHO I AM IS NOT IMPORTANT HERE. COME ON, YOU MUST BE FROM MARS. IT IS A FACT THAT THE ROADS ARE ATROCIOUS. IT IS A FACT THAT IT IS A GOVERNMENT ROAD, IT IS A FACT THAT WE HAVE BEEN PROMISED AND PROMISED AND PROMISED BY THE NWA THAT THEY ARE GOING TO FIX IT BY SUCH AND SUCH A DATE. WE PAY OUR TAXES TOO SO WHY SHOULD WE COLLECT MONEY TO FIX ROADS. IT IS A FACT THAT THESE PROMISES HAVE FALLEN THROUGH TO DATE. IT IS A FACT THAT THE ROADS HAVE BEEN LIKE THAT FOR OVER 2 YEARS. IT IS A FACT THAT THE ROADS WERE OK BEFORE THEY "DIG IT UP AND BOUT DEM MEKING HI-WAY". FROM I WAS A LITTLE KID, I HAVE NEVER HEARD ANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS STRETCH OF ROAD UNTIL SOME BIG CONTRACTOR TROUBLE IT, GET THEIR BIG CUT AND GONE AND WE ARE LEFT WITH BASKET TO CARRY WATER. SHOULDN'T THEY BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR POOR ENGINEERING? SO, AS A CITIZEN OF THE COMMUNITY I AM VENTING A FACT ON BEHALF OF MY OTHER YARDIES, SO DON'T ASK ME WHO I AM, WHO ARE YOU? I AM ONLY WRITING FACTS.
IN CASE YOU DON'T KNOW - THIS MEDIUM IS FOR CITIZENS AND WHOMEVER TO GIVE POSITIVE VIBES AND SEEK TO HIGHLIGHT PROBLEMS IN THE COMMUNITY SO THAT WE CAN MAKE THIS A BETTER PLACE FOR U AND US.
BLESS UP.

I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT THE STAKEHOLDERS IN THE COMMUNITY HAVE NO GUTS. ESPECIALLY THE VILLA OWNERS. WE MARKET OUR COMMUNITY AS A TOURIST AREA, BUT NO BODY IS PUTTING PRESSURE ON THE GOVERNMENT TO HAVE THE ROADS FIXED AND PROPERLY TOO. WHAT CAN THE CITIZENS DO BUT BLOCK THE ROADS - WE ARE ABOVE THAT. IN THIS COUNTRY IT IS THE BIG WIGS THAT GETS THINGS GOING - SO SPEAK UP FOR US MAN.
I AM SURE THE TOURISTS ARE APPALLED EACH TIME THEY SEE THESE ROADS, ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO COME EVERY YEAR AND SEE NO CHANGE. AFTER ALL, WE ARE NOT DUPPIES. COME ON VILLA AND HOTEL OWNERS USE YOUR POWER MAN. OUR TOWN IS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AREAS IN THE COUNTRY, YET STILL LOOK AT THE ENTRANCE - A ROLLER COASTER, LIFE THREATENING TRAP. COME ON VILLA OWNERS DON'T JUST THINK OF YOUR OWN LITTLE CORNER - YOUR SURROUNDINGS IS ALSO IMPORTANT, ESPECIALLY THE ENTRANCE TO THE COMMUNITY. I REST MY CASE.

Road Angel, could I respectfully ask that you consider not writing in all capital letters when you post here. Its difficult to read and tends to colour the reader's view of what's written on the Web.

I'm not saying I disagree with what you're saying (nor that I agree). But if you're trying to share your point of view then putting it in normal letters may better suit your purpose.

NO ONE HAD EVER SAID JAKES SHOULD EVER FIX THE ROADS. HOWEVER HE HAS A LOT OF INFLUENCE - EVEN MORE THAN ANY OTHER BUSINESS OWNER - AND THAT IS A FACT. HE IS A GOOD MAN IN THE COMMUNITY - HE DOES A LOT OF MARKETING FOR THE COMMUNITY - TRIATHALON, CALABASH AND VARIOUS OTHER EVENTS. BUT GOSH MAN, WE NEED TO FIX OUR ENTRANCE. JASON IS ALSO THE HEAD OF SOME ST. ELIZABETH COMMITTEE, THE PARISH COUNCIL AND BREDS AND OTHER BODIES. HE NEEDS TO STAND UP - IF HE IS THE ONLY ONE FOR TB AND USE HIS INFLUENCE. IT AMAZES ME HOW SOMETIMES THE STAKEHOLDERS GET ON THE RADIO AND BIG UP THE COMMUNITY AND TOTALLY IGNORE THE ROADS.
WHERE IS MR. BUCHANAN? LET US NOT WAIT FOR ANOTHER ELECTION TO DO A QUICK FIX. GOD HELP US.

I do understand that Jason is a member of the Tourist Board BUT we have to remember that Tourist Board concentrates on Tourism not Road repair... So whoever want to suggest road repair should start sending their letters and air their views with the NWA.... For those who chose to hide their identity that's their business but my concern is that too many expect ONE person to carry the load of the community and many hands make work lighter... I can certainly say my previous note was precise and fair and should anyone have a problem they NEED to re-read it.
One Love to all

I totally agree with you Road Angel it is only the BIG WIG opinion counts in todays society. No one wants to open their mouth, everyone is waiting for each other to say something, so nothing will get done. Every hotel and villa's owner just sits there and don't see that the roads needs to be fixed. The road is terrible it is not even a road anymore i don't know what it is but i know for sure thats not what road looks like. Look how beautiful your community is and look at the roads come on we need to do something about it, it is getting worse every year. If nothing is done soon or later what our community is going to look like. People is trying to find out who ROAD ANGEL is how about find the person who is in charge of the roads. Not trying to be rude but something needs to be done, its about time we see changes on the roads.

Yes Terry i agree its not Jason alone that lives in the community but he is a business man also and very popular, so don't watch that anyone is not saying anything if you want a change why not go after it. You can't even walk on the road in the night you "bruck yuh foot."

It is such a pity some people cannot get the message. Instead they are attacking the messenger. It is obvious that they have not been on this stretch of road being referred to. It is the worst main road in the entire country - and that is a fact!! Can anyone deny this?
I guess by now most people would have gotten the message anyway - It is the NWA that is responsible for the roads - and they know this. No one was saying that Jason should fix the roads - so Terry is definitely missing the point. We need to try to get the message before we jump to writing. So, now that the NWA has been reminded of what the road looks like, where do we go from here??

Now that the road was blocked and cleared early this morning,Are our voices really heard? Friends,Short Hill to Station,Station to Cross Road,Round Hill and it's environs was cared for on this same matter.I too, honestly believe that some POSITIVE action is indeed necessary.Every-body has a concern but it is about time we all stop pointing fingers at each other.REMEMBER if you are not a part of the solution, then obviously, you are a part of the problem.Let us use this medium effectively by offering reasonable advise to each other holding each others hand as we unite and join together in the fight for what is right.Only then can we succeed.UNITE PEOPLE only then can we offer assistance to Treasure Beach which we love so much.Only then, our voices will be heard and not only will our roads but our entire community will be lovely.Take no offence- "hush di truth hurt".NUFF matters to address- we only need to be organized. Hi all--I, for one, appreciate the plugs for grassroots and local service organizations. I'm occasionally able to support some of these efforts and am glad to do so. Knowing more about the TB community -- both struggles and successes -- adds to my enjoyment when I'm visiting. This website makes a positive difference. And makes us tourists feel a little more connected. Van.

Rebecca - This is a proposal - Why not lead a delegation down to the NWA. This could consist of Business Owners, Citizens, and anyone else who is interested. This is an alternative to the usual Jamaican tendency to block the roads. This is to meet with the relevant personnel there in Black River and to get something concrete on when the roads will be fixed. My God, this is getting from bad to worse. We have been totally ignored by our MP!! Let me get your feedback. Don't worry who I am - I am very much interested in the affairs of this Community.

We have called and he was in a meeting (on more than one occasion). It seems that's all they do. To meet is a good thing, but talking without action is futile. Come on TB - What next? Hurricane season begins next month. Just a good shower of rain will make that stretch of road impassable. ACTION! ACTION! ACTION! I will be calling again today, anyway.

The delegation sounds like a good idea, especially if you have a list to give to the NWA of the issues which the delegation wanted to bring to their attention. I would advise you to call ahead and see if you can't schedule a time to speak with someone there. Let me know when you are thinking of doing this and I would be happy to participate.

A delegation is a good idea , but tell me, how can we, who are abroad, support it ? Maybe a letter that we could sign and send with the delegation ?
