Why do you want to know? I know there are quite a few already moved back to Theasure Beach, and it is very beautiful. If you are from there, I would suggest lets make it one more and build the community to where I hope to see one day......

I am from Treasure Beach, I just recently came back from there, Treasure Beach is becoming a retirement community. I am just curious to know if the people that grew up there have any interest in returning. Our lovely community is not what it use to be, it's seems like it's the rich verses the poor, I felt like I was still in North America. I had a chance to talk with the rich, poor, and not so poor also the visitors and I am not sure the people are happy there anymore.

It appears a lot of people that lives in the community is not even aware of this site and it's purpose. The fishermen are unhappy, some of the business people are unhappy,it looks like only some people are progressing. If I wrote what I was told on this site it would not be published. I am therfore trying to find another source.Give the webmaster credit for keeping us abroad updated.

To say that I will return... I am not quite sure yet... I think that the community has changed, (which is great thing by the way) and for the better in terms of development. So that nothing is wrong with returning to live, but something is wrong with me, I don't like changes, I kind of like same old, same old, so I feel Malvern will be more like it to me. This will give me the best of both worlds, Treasure Beach will only be a short drive away. So as not to leave you hanging about the changes, I don't see a lot of the people I knew when I was growing up and the "Old Timers" some of them have died. Even the fishing is not the same. These are natural changes I guess and the place is still great with warm and friendly faces.

I am a third generation Treasure Beachian and dream everyday about returning home to live. But with the recent and current development, I dont know if I will be returning to the once laid back, frienldy community that we once knew or another North American city.

I miss the Treasure Beach of yesteryear, if I could wave a magic wand and changed it all; oh happy it would be. But in light of all the above, Treasure Beach is still the nicest place on this planet.

I was in jamaica March, 2006 i am canadian was staying at Jakes and has booked an air fare to return in May, 2006. TREASURE BEACH IS A GEM AND ITS PEOPLE.I have been to most of the caribbean island and their is no comparison to JAMAICA.

I wish everyone well who is thinking of returning home to TB to retire.Retirement do not mean you are old, many people in their 40's and 50's are already retired in America and many other countries it all depends of one's circumstances.
Some people can retire and live a healthy good laid-back life with just a little financial income and then there are others that needs to live lavishly may be just to show-off to their other fellow men.
I will just say to everyone TB was and still is a nice place to live so let us do our best to keep it that way by joining together as one big "Neighbourhood Watch Community" which means looking out for all making sure unwelcome visitors from near and far do not bring in or do things to destroy our little village.

I was born in Kingston. My grandparents are from Clarendon. I used to spend my summer breaks in the country. I came to live in the states when I was 12 and have been back to Jamaica off on on but never to the South Coast. I discovered Treasure Beach in a travel magazine. I am coming out there this summer - specifically to TB. I want to build a second home there. I hope it is as nice and laid back as I have been reading.

To Treasure Beach lover see when you start topic like this then you realise how ignorant Jamaicans can be. I love Treasure Beach and have every desire to go back there, does that mean I should not hear my people's pain, I am not the Government... I care about my country people. No one said Rebecca and Jakes was not appreciated,or loved, They have made changes in the community no doubt, these are business people. I am a very nice person until I have to do business with you

A lot of people go to Jamaica for different reasons, when you love where you are born and have all the desire to return, you care about what's going on in your community.
Ce Ce I think you made some good comments, as for some of the others I need not comment on them.

Treasure beach is still a great place, NO I did not expect it to stay the same way.Treasure beach lover I hope you can do some positive things in the community when you return and not try to pretend you are better than the people there, follow the webmaster footstep when they decide to make Tresure Beach their home town.

Positive people will bring positive results, I am sure if you called a meeting today in Frenchman and ask everyone to give their opinion on how things are going and how they feel about the changes, you would share my sentiment. I am speaking of people who are not illiterate... just to clarify and to avoid a long thread.

Born in Treasure Beach; I hear you and agree with you. Discussion such as these should be very welcoming. Over the years I have given thought to this very same topic, but reframed from taking the initiative. Thank you for making the bold step. What has happen to constructive criticsm, we need a balance of both pros and cons.

Let us not be ignorant about this, remember this website is a gateway to Treasure Beach, therefore we dont want the world to see us in the negative. Believe me, the visitors (from overseas) know exactly what we are saying, and many of them will tell you that they come to Jamaica or any other Caribbean Island to get away from the norm back home. Many of them would enjoy Treasure Beach the way it was in the 1970/80's, some will agree that the present TB is escaping their normal life.

But we the people of Treasure Beach know that development brings and some of us are scared.
Please see and understand what "born in treasure beach" is saying, dont be hating, just appreciate.

The fishermen in Treasure Beach will be going to court again with the owners of Golden Sand, why do we not want to make this public. The fishermen had such a great loss during Ivan, and are struggling to recover. Why oppress the oppressed.

Two items for clarification:

1) We try to approve posts in a timely manner, but am not always able to get to them as quickly as you may like. We are usually able to process them within a day. We appreciate your patience.

2) In regards to the post about the fishermen court case and keeping it secret, if you are referring to why a post about it here was not approved, it was outside of the guidelines.

A short list of things to do besides posting negative stuff (and posting snide comments about people who post negative stuff):

Go plant a tree
Go help a child to read
Go take a walk in the park
Go work at a soup kitchen feeding the hungry
Go tell your (grand)kids a story about your life
Go thank a teacher for their work
Go and do something positive

Eric and Rebecca dont pay any attention to what One blood said, I am positive that both yourself and Rebecca knows that this thread has nothing to do with you. As a matter of fact, I think Treasure Beach would be better served if both of you were the MP's and furthermore, if I had any information on the whereabouts (if they exist) of the keys to Treasure Beach I would surely give them to you both, that is how much you are appreciated in Treasure Beach.

If it wasnt for your contribution, this invaluable resource that you have provided for the residents of TB would not even been a dream.

I think that when we are having positive discussions, we should stick to the point and not building mountains out of mold hill.

Have blessed and Happy Easter Treasure Beach

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Earl on Thursday, April 13, 2006 - 06:27 pm: Edit Post

I love your "to do" list, Eric.
In fact if those suggestions were taken seriously we would have a greatly transformed Treasure Beach:
Too many trees have been cut down without being replaced!
Too many children still complete school without achieving an acceptable standard of education. Hence they are not adequately prepared for life either in Treasure Beach or anywhere else!
There is definitely a need for us to come together and develop a park in which old and young could, indeed, have a good walk!
There are some shut-ins who do need assistance, and a fully functional community might actually find ways of assisting (not leaving it entirely up to their immediate relatives who might be of limited means).
As for the storytelling - I learnt a lot at the feet of my paternal grandfather and my parents.

And regarding our teachers - they need all the encouragement and support we can give them.

By the way, it is undeniable that a significant number of positive developments in Treasure Beach in recent years have really been led by 'outsiders'. The community stands to benefit from the united efforts of locals and newcomers alike.

There is, indeed, a major transformation taking place in Treasure Beach. Hundreds of local residents have left, mostly for the US, Canada and the UK. Much as they would like to return it will take years for many to do so, and for others, it will never happen. I am not knocking them for that, just stating the obvious. Once you get married (especially to a non-Jamaican) and settle down in another country, having children amd a spouse who may not share your enthusiasm for the old place, you are tied up for years!
In the meantime, others have moved in, and, mostly, have been making a positive contribution to the community's development.
The last thing we need is for cleavages to develop between those born in Treasure Beach and the newcomers.
If we can combine our experiences and resources,we might just find that the community will ultimately be the winner.
My word to those locals who still own parcels of land is, think carefully before you sell for short term gain. You just might be depriving your children or grandchildren of a piece of this special place called Treasure Beach.
But, if you do sell it to the newcomers, don't turn around and resent them afterwards!
And, please, do not interpret what I have said as a message against anyone on this website! I have been thinking about these things for quite some time.

Why couldn't a park be for everyone? The elders could sit & chat while watching the kids play. The kids could bask in the attention of the elders. Mom & Dads could get advice from grand & great grand parents.

Why would fishermen be going to court with a villa owner? A short response will satisfy my curiousity. One does not have to elaborate or go into deep details.

I was born in treasure beach but is know living in canada, i have being to many places but there is now place like home, the people and the community is enough, and i think that when people goes abroad to live for a while the should think about doing some kind of investing for old age if you should return home to live. I personally dont have any intentions to stay in canada at an old age, for now its home but later its treasure beach am here working hard and trying to establish a business back home for that where the heart is.

Treasure Beach is a beautiful place why would you not want to go back there and live.
Some people should stop the fighting over things because they cant bring it with them when they died. Learn to live, love, and respect each other and the place will be even more beautiful. I would love to be there right now, instead of waking up in the cold every morning.

I cannot believe what I'm reading about the Fishermen and going back to court. The bad part is that it will be taking place in Kingston and already some of these men can heardly afford to buy gas for their boats to go to sea to try to make a little money to feed their family. Is there someone in the community that can help these men in their troubles.
What realy hurt is seeing It's one of their own hometown native that is doing this to them. What gain will they reap from doing this?
"I JUST CANNOT BELIEVE THIS."

"What will it profit a man to gain the whole world and loose his own soul". Look at all the recent sadness in Treasure Beach, and to know these poor men have to be paying lawyers so much money to represent them plus, driving to Kingston. "can't we all get along, an old aunt of mine in Treasure Beach old me as a child "you came into this world with nothing and you will leave with nothing, all we are getting is 6x6. Aunty Dita rest in peace.

On that note is does not mean if real harm is done to anyone they should not face the law, on some of the fishermen papers one of fishermen papers damages was done to the bed sheets by rock throwing CAN WE DONATE SOME? spare the fishermen they are struggling, opressors go away.

What happened to the possibility of an Arbitrator? I remember this was being put in place as a means of taking the load of the courts and having respected and authorised people reasoning it out with the parties privately.

Has the matter gone too far for reasoning?

Are there local traditions that are being disrespected?

What role does the idea of 'The Outsider' play?

I do not think all the duppies in Treasure Beach can do us as much harm as emotions gone wild and reason suspended.

I sense that emotions are warm now and could be cooled if those involved could sit down and reason it out.
