someone may what to pass this message on to the south coast touist board.i was just talking to a friend that had been in T.B. recently and they thought that you had the polites crack heads in jamaica they actually thought it was nice for a change
Canadian - can you elaborate please. I don't seem to understand this... forgive me but are you being offensive?
i have met them and it is true they are the sweetest most politest crackheads ever
Is Canadian trying to be funny? I don't think that this is a nice post and it should be removed. Telling people that there are "nice crackheads" in T.B. is not something you would put on a tourist board.
Canadian and Irishgirl, are you trying to be coyly insulting? This is a very strange thread, and I find it offensive.
@ Jeannie, why can't you bear to read the facts? The truth is, Crackheads are in this so gloryfied Treasure Beach (as they are all over Jamaica)It would really make a change to the image of T.B. if more people like Canadian post their experiences.
That Canadian sure writes like a Jamaican...I wonder.
I agree with Jeannie Brim, and to title the topic as "TB Image" makes it sound as if you are implying that TB is full of crackheads(which is not the case)...not a good topic at all
About this thread and why we approved it...
Ever hear the phrase "Damned if you do, damned if you don't"?
We looked at the message and cringed as most of the responders here did. But then we looked at the guidelines and thought that the post didn't go outside of them (which can sometimes be a judgement call).
Our decision was whether to post something negative about the area, or delete it and be accused of censorship.
We did what we do with all posts and said if it's within the guidelines, then we approve it. So we did.
For those concerned about the contents, here's a sure-fire way to have this thread lose its impact...don't reply and it will wither on the vine.
For the record, TB is not filled with crackheads. As the vast majority of threads on this message board show, it's filled with kind, friendly people who are the main reason people keep coming back to visit. And that's not a judgement call.

Sleeply, laid back and in denial?
Still....I'll walk during dark night from Fort Charles to Back Seaside and only have my eyes open for the rare croc or 'red batty' spiders!
....without a 'lass.
I would think twice about doing this in parts of Washington, LA, NY, Toronto, Moscow,......etc.
No offence meant to our friends in foreign.
Hope WE keep it so!!!
Hampton Beach NH... My home. Also home to many a crackhead. Your point is?
There are crackheads everywhere!
Turey,
what is a "red batty" spider?
As I read it, the original post said that even the crackheads were polite. After many trips to various locations in Jamaica,I've often said that even the thiefs and con-men leave you smiling, and in good humor...Trouble is everywhere if you look for it.
Hi jeannie, Latrodectus Mactans.
The Black Widow spider.
Found all over the Americas and for sure more common than crackheads.
I thought someone was going to ask what kind of 'lass I may walk with, wrapped if I'm on a transport, but walked with freely, especially if I am a cultivator.
Oh and kept sharp and clean.
jeannie, tell the people the type of 'lass that would not be welcome in Times or Trafalgar square.
She is of variable but shortish size, can whistle if handled properly and can 'sing' in the hands of the right 'lass man.
An old one just sold on ebay!
Mine is a Martindale, but the Falcon hook is some guys girl.
What has this got to do with some of us who need
the attention of the community and the community that needs to know the long term effects of this substance anyway?
Sooo...whats a 'lass?
i would just like to clarify a point that TB is definitely not filled with Crackheads however as unfortunate as it is and with all areas all over the world there is an element of individuals with addictions - i was just stressing that these individuals are actually not offensive or scary sorry for offending anyone...
The fact is many of us who have been there know who they are. And yes, they are good folks. The ones I know I trust as much as anyone there. In fact I went to a family picnic. Can't wait to see them again. The other fact is many of us who write and read here use illegal drugs. In fact, some go there to live out their "other side". We can walk down Anytown USA and buy rocks. TB is no different... Except there they won't rob you.
TBNET, I think you do a good job by posting the negatives and the positives on this website. After all good balance is important, right? Why do you therefore go and spoil it by trying to defend it and offer suggestions as to how to handle this particular comment. Like anywhere else in the world, we might have one or two negatives, but I will steal a line from good old Charley Pride: "Oh I remember when the good times outweighed the bad". That will most definitely be true of Treasure Beach, everytime!!
OOOOH The sour grapes!!!!! and The green eyed monsters, but we have freedon of speech, let Democracy Reign!!!! We are one of the few former
Colonies that haven't yet decended into anarchy,
lets not forget that freedon of speech is one of the more obvious signs and benefits of a healthy democracy!! I am willing to wager that this e-mail will be screened for keywords, before it gets to tb.net (and i dont mean by Eric),
"speak yu mind! before yu lose the right fe du so"
Big up Eric!!!
to clarify the original post it was a sincere comment on the difference in their expirences in negril and TB i thought this was funny, sorry if i shattered anyones illusions that TB is not shang-gra-la in fact it is a real place with real problems and real people living very tragic lives if you love TB then you have to love her warts and all
I agree with longtimer. I was born in Jamaica, left as a little kid, but before I left things were different. I don't remember my people doing crack, but time has change and now a little bit of crack got in the community and we have a few crackheads ok that don't change how beautiful our community has become and how friendly our people still are. There are so many crackheads in New York and other part of the world that are always robing people to support their addictions. The five we have in TB are so friendly and respectful you wouldn't even look at them as crackheads. I live in New York for 20plus years and I love it here big up my NYC people and my people all over the world. Big up all my Jamaicans, Jamaica is always number one to me. This is a great topic because this world is not perfect and things do happened everywhere you go including Jamaica. For all the people that response about this topic have love for TB and we all know that TB is the place to be because the people are friendly, and the place is tremendous. So you all need to go get your tickets and head down to TB, lets get the party started love you all.
I was not responding to the mention of crack users in TB. I took offense at the cutesy tone of the email. It seemed snide and rude, as if the writer was really trying to say that TB isn't all that great if there are crackheads. Sure, there are people using in crack in TB, as everywhere. I accept the reality of that as I accept flooding in storm season and the roads never being properly fixed/drained. It was the insincerity or uncharitable feel of the post that I objected to.
Treasure Beach Image........
hmmmmmmm, some of the things that come to my mind are:
the fact that when I stay in TB i can walk alone at night (I am a woman) and not have to worry - as a matter of fact, pp will drive by and ask if I'm alright or if I want a ride
most import - I sleep with the windows open in TB, here all windows and doors are locked up tight at night - even if the temp. is 30C. The only time I have been able to leave my windows open at night when sleeping here is when I lived on upper levels of apt. buildings (5th floor or higher) and I knew my neighbours well - so I did not have to worry about late night visitors.
even on the beach the people of TB watch out for their visitors - if they see a tourist swimming where they should not be - someone makes sure to let the swimmers know to move to a safer area of the beach
Now those are the types of entries I would expect to see in a thread such as this.....
