we are going to be at Treasure Beach during Christmas and New years. What are some of the events going on at that time? What are the holiday traditions in Jamaica? Anything else you can think of would be so helpful. Thank You!
I've spent christmas and new years in T.B. and it is pretty quiet. there is a tree lighting on christmas eve at kingfisher plaza that you should attend and jack sprat will have a good new years party but for the most part christmas will come and go without much notice.so if you want tradition bring it with you
Christmas in Jamaica is very boring, people don't really care about it like North Americans do.
Well, I suppose everyone has a different definition of boring, but I don't think its accurate to say its not cared about.
As the second poster said, there is a tree lighting party on the night of the 24th that packs Kingfisher Plaza. And several New Year's parties/dances.
And ya gotta love the Reggae Christmas Carols.
I suspect its more a matter of different tradition than none at all. And, perhaps, a lack of funds to go as overboard as we North Americans tend to do.

Are alot of places closed on Christmas Day? Do they celebrate Boxing Day?
it seems to be a matter of choice to open or not on christmas day but some shops open up after church
Christmas in Treasure Beach may be very laid back, but boring, I don't agree. This should be viewed in the context that this is still a small close-knit community where family values are important and as country folks we enjoy visiting and being festive with our families at Christmas time. This is not boring to us at all and we try to keep the true meaning of Christmas. Just come, we have good vibes in Treasure Beach!!
