This has been in the works for some time, but with the recent tragic drowning this takes on added significance.

Breds Treasure Beach Foundation and the Royal Life Saving Society (Jamaica) are conducting a Life Saving Course at Frenchman's Beach on April 12 - 13, 2006. The flyer is at the bottom of this post.

Here's how you can help: The cost is US$60 per participant. TBNet and Breds are asking for your help in funding local residents to take this course. Your donation will help teach people how to make the beaches of Treasure Beach safer. As the flyer says, "The life you save may be your own."

If you would like to help, contact Eric Morrison at 876-965-0748 (Jamaica) or eram2000jam@yahoo.com.

NOTE: TBNet is only helping advertise this event. We are not taking money for it. However, we are sponsoring a participant. And you should too.

The life guard training held last Wednesday and Thursday was a great success. Eric, from BREDS, will be posting a list of all the participants as well as the sponsors.

I believe around 25 men ended up taking the training course. This far exceeded our expectations! It was a gruelling two day training course where the participants had to run up and down the beach several times, stretch, and swim, and swim, and swim. The point being, if you are not in shape, you cannot save someone else and may risk your own life.

They were taught various methods of saving someone depending on whether you are approaching a conscious or unconscious victim, age of victim, etc. They were also taught how to resuscitate someone after pulling them out. This was a very thorough course. Kudos to the trainers!

And I am happy to report that both yesterday and today (holidays here) there are two trained TB life guards posted on Frenchman's Beach and will be posted next Sunday as well.

Thanks to BREDS for coordinating this training course. Thanks to the sponsors for making it all possible. And thanks to the participants for helping make TB safer.

Please see photos in the photo gallery.

Breds The Treasure Beach Foundation would like to thank all the sponsors of the Life Saving Course.

Forty-two persons registered to do the course. However, only thirty-six persons completed it. Twenty-five persons successfully achieved the Life Saving Certificate and they are:

Jace Swaby, Collimore Ebanks, Dale Ebanks, Dennis Abrahams, Jason Gordon, Javin Myrie, Ken Trenchfield, Lorenzo Taylor, Lennox Coke, Nickell Hill, Naaman Parchment, Oshane Dennis, Rajiv Williams, Raydon McPherson, Richard Parchment, Rick Dillon, Roshane Dennis, Sanjay Myrie, Ted Parchment, Troy Hill, Walden Clarke, Vinton Moxam, Eric Stewart, Gregory Sinclair and Keraldo McPherson.

Nine persons received a certificate of participation. They are:

Allen Daley, Joseph Brown, Leandy Clarke, Lloyd Taylor, Michael Taylor, Pete Campbell, Ritchie Parchment, Talian James, and Lloyd Elliot.

Currently, we have eight persons who rotate working on Frenchman's Beach on Sundays and Public Holidays between the hours of 10:00 am and 6:00 pm. Two persons work on the days mentioned.

We are currently organizing the persons who were successful in the Life Saving Course to do the Life Guard Examination.

Well done to all who completed the course, showing great commitment and admirable physical fitness.
Congratulations to all but especially my brother-in-law, Walden Clarke. I know for a fact that he has pulled people from the sea many times before but I am happy that he and all the others have had the opportunity to acquire accredited life-saving skills. Well done to those who organised the training and of course the sponsors. Thank you all very much.

Big up yourselves Troy Hill, Wally Clarke & Raydion Macpherson - Nuff respect to you guys - hope to see you all on Frenchmans when I'm next in JA.

Also, message to Barbara Clarke - could you please say hi to Nehru for me - tell him we spoke in The Devonshire Arms on New Years Eve 2004/2005 - the lady that told him that his brother (Wally) always said I should go and say hi to his brother the next time I was in Cambridge.
