Quite a few references have been made on this website recently to the ‘Snowboy’ (‘Snow Boy’) tragedy. Just thought I’d provide a few details:

The boat set out for Walton Bank on Monday, July 1, 1963. They were last heard from by radio at 10pm that night when the captain reported that all was well.

Five days later pieces of furniture and debris from the 63ft vessel were picked up on the surface of the sea.

History recalls that all 40 men on board perished. A significant number of them were from Treasure Beach, as the list below will attest:

Samuel James – Treasure Beach
Manola Myers – Treasure Beach
Samuel James – Treasure Beach
Aubrey Crowe – Treasure Beach
Avery Crowe – Treasure Beach
Oliver Moxam – Treasure Beach
Vernal Moxam – Treasure Beach
Cleve Gordon – Treasure Beach
Errol Whittaker – Treasure Beach
Aldon Hill – Treasure Beach
John Hill – Greenwich Town, Kingston and Treasure Beach
Kern Hill – Greenwich Town, Kingston and Treasure Beach
Truman Hill – Greenwich Town, Kingston and Treasure Beach
Harvey Ebanks – Flagaman, St. Elizabeth
‘Frankie’ – Greenwich Town, Kingston
Ashley Forbes Greenwich Town, Kingston
Simon Brown – Port Antonio
Herbert Dawson – Port Antonio
Clifton Parchment – Greenwich Town
Sidney Clarke – Kingston
Lynval Beckford – Kingston
Endrey Brown – Kingston

L.G O’Toole – Captain (Australian) – Mount Salem, St. James
Sam Lee – Mobay
Selwyn Brissett - Bluefields, Westmoreland

These names were taken from the early newspaper reports, so there were probably some changes/ clarifications as time went on.

Who was Alvary ? I do not know if that was his proper name. I was told that he was one of the men from Great Bay that dissapeared on the Snow Boy.Is he the person listed as Avery Crowe?

Johnny Gordon of calabash bay was also on the snow boy.

I believe Alvery was the same person as Avery Crowe. There were, I understand, two brothers - Alvery/ Avery Crowe and Aubrey Crowe who were lost on the Snowboy. Alvery/Avery was from Great Bay while Aubrey (Miss Audrey's son) lived in Sandy Bank. Tragically, Miss Audrey then lost a younger son -Crosbie - a decade later, in another incident in Nicaraguan waters.

You are right, of course, Nanlin. Your uncle, John (Johnny) Gordon, was also on the Snowboy. As I said earlier, the initial reports in the newspapers did not have all the names, and in some instances the spelling was not accurate.
It would be a nice idea for anyone (relatives or otherwise) to pass on any additional name, which was missed, just like you have done.
Annecdotes relating to them would also be an interesting addition.
I understand, for example, that Vernal Moxam – my father's first cousin - had only recently returned from England and wanted to explore his prospects in the sea again, only to meet this tragic end.
