Can anyone tell me if there are any Banks in Treasure Beach for changing travellers'cheques.I know there are several Banks in Black River but I don't fancy taking a trip there just to change some cheques.

There are no banks in Treasure Beach. You may be able to change some at Jakes.

I usually bring US $$ and exchange for Ja in Black River or Junction.

There is a branch of St. Elizabeth Credit Union around Newell or Big Woods but that is almost in Black River.

If you are being picked up in Montego Bay, ask your driver to stop at the Supersaver Plus on your way out of Mo Bay (in the plaza across from the KFC). It always has the best rates (better than banks and Cambios) for US$, Canadian $ (so if you are Canadian, don't bother wasting money changing into US and then Jamaican $), as well as English Pounds and European Sterlings... and the hours are great. In November it was 9:30p.m. and I was able to change all I needed for two weeks plus grab some staples for way cheaper than in Black River or the supermarket in T.B. (liquor, milk, cheese, bread, crackers, produce, etc.) Give it a try - it is along the way to T.B.

There is a bank in Southfield, that would be closer than Junction, and Black River

BTW, I know at least one bank is interested in placing an ATM in T Beach. I know this will not solve the problem of those who wish to cash cheques/ change FX etc.
It will, however, be a convenient option, particularly for those locals who simply wish to have access to some cash without having to travel outside of the community.
