sorry to ask this, but I treid to find out in the forum but realized that some of the postings are very old. So I´m not quite sure if some of the places still exist.
Could anyone mention some Restaurants to me , apart from Jack Sprat, which everyone knows... and are there some "cookshops" around...?
In which bay ? There are more restraunts around Frenchmans & Calabash Bay. Last time I was in Billy's Bay there was a cook shop around the conner from Irie Rest. There is a cook shop on the main in Great Bay.
When I was in TB earlier this month the Pot Snapper was being renovated (closed). We ate breakfast at the Wild Onion (very good), dinner at Diners Delight (very good & dirt cheap) Both are in Frenchmans.
In Great Bay, Hi-o's shop (big shop just little past the bottom of the hill on the main road) is famous for "Judy's sexy chicken" (as named by one of our past guests)-- it is sold as a dinner with bread, irish potato and sometimes a salad $120-$160J per serving!
Further down the road on the left hand side is a new place built from a converted shipping container that is also a spot to grab a bite to eat.
Tiffany's still closed...Translove/Hearts of Love/Coffee Shop great for breakfast as is Morris's.Diners Delight brilliant and was recommended to eat at Kim's (on the corner of the lane near Wild Onion). Also ate at Wild Onion,Pelican Bar (Fish),Jakes and Jack Spratt. Also Little Ochie. Never had a bad meal in 3 weeks!!Although never tried it apparently the Fried Chicken and Jerk (round the back) at South Jammin was good too.
On the Calabash end of town, Gold Coast (in Kingfisher Plaza) and Blossoms/F&J (next to the big pink building) are really good and cheap. I prefer F&J if I'm going to dine in since its a little cooler to eat at and they serve Red Stripes.
But both are really tasty.
Oh, and i forgot Miss Sadie's place in the plaza with the big(ger) grocery just up from the big pink building. Yum.
F & J; is that the home made pizza place?
Yep, F&J has home made pizza. And good fries (chips)
thank you so much for the input. What about the other end of Treasure Beach, direction Billy´s Bay.... anything there ?
There is atleast 1 cook shop in Billy's Bay. It's on the main road just around the conner from Irie Rest. The food was great (and cheap) when I ate there. The food is EXCELLENT at Irie Rest, as well.
Oh, Heart of Love / Trans Love is not far. I think it's just outside Billy's Bay.
Viking, I heard that the container shop by Hopie was being used as a bar?? Are they still serving food?
BTW, how's life back a yaad??
Kate
Heart of Love is a 15-20 min.walk or so from most of guesthouses/villas in Billy's Bay with
the wonderful smell, let alone taste of Jackie and Audrey's fresh French bread and sweet rolls to reward you for the hike.
It's a great way to wake up in the am if you
don't have a cook...
Kate,
Last I heard the bar was not open anymore.
Cool Runnings Bar on the right as you head down to the main beach at Gt Bay also serves up some good food - fried chicken, stew chicken, rice n peas, fry fish & bammy to name a delicious few. Worth a visit if you're down that way. Prices are good and it's a real pretty bar with pool table if you like a game!
Kate
the bar you mentioned was open when we were there in december but tended to close early amd often no food available.
Although we were staying in Frenchmans we spent a lot of our time in Gt Bay as we preferred the beach there for swimming-- much more sand, and the sea is lot safer for kids and weaker swimmers than the other bays.
We also became regulars at Cool Runnings bar on the main road just up from the beach at Gt Bay--they do great box lunches which we took down to the beach with us and we often stopped there to eat at night on our way home. The kids were able to get their regular fix of chicken & fries while we had some of the best yard food in TB ( prices reasonable around $ 140-180 JA I think)-so every one was happy!A great place for sitting outside and meeting locals and a bird watchers delight as the pond opposite is full of wildlife-the kids loved it!!
Would also recommend Jack Sprats for pizza -as good as any I've had in the States|
