Aman Parchment -- Billy's Bay fisherman, tourist van driver, and villas manager, is a member of the Treasure Beach Emergency Response Unit. On Saturday, 17 December, Aman heard a loud commotion outside the garage where he keeps his vehicles. He ran to the road and saw a JPS worker hanging unconscious from the top of a telephone pole; a crowd of some 40 onlookers was watching, helplessly. Aman climbed to a gatepost next to the pole, requested a machette from an onlooker, chopped the JPS man's belt to release him, and caught him in his arms when he dropped. The JPS man had no pulse, and he had stopped breathing. Aman instructed the crowd to stand back while he administered CPR and chest compressions until the JPS worker revived. Aman continued to work on the man for about 45 minutes, until the Treasure Beach ambulance arrived. The ambulance took the JPS man to the Black River Hospital; he was then transferred by air to Kingston because of the severity of his injuries. The JPS man's coworker visited Aman yesterday to tell him the man he rescued was now walking around in the hospital, though he has exceedingly bad burns.
Aman is exceedingly thankful for the fine training he received and stated, "One of the greatest things a man can do is to save another person's life. It made me feel great!"
Thank goodness for Aman's traning and quick thinking. How odd that I was just thinking of TBERU this morning on my way to work!

Aman, you always seem to be there in a crisis helping others through. Thank God you were there and thank God for the volunteer doctors at St. Josephs who have dedicated so much time, effort, and funds to the training that made it possible for the JPS man to be able to spend the holidays with his family.

This is Aman enjoying himself at the Christmas Eve Party.
Aman:
You are an inspiration to the people of Treasure Beach. A true local hero, in every way.
No greater gift can a man give, than to lay down his life for another!
well done Aman, you are a true blue Hero!
Aman,
Thumbs up to you. You are a great man and I am glad I got to know you on my trip a few weeks ago.
I don't know how true but I heard that AL the husband of LAURA (wife of AMAN) niece Suzzette also helped to get the JPS man from the pole. Aman was the one who administered CPR, so lets spread the prise to all those that help matters how little.
When i was a child in great bay a little girl drowned in a bucket,i believed she could have been saved if someone knew cpr. Iam glad that the community has progressed to a point where peoples lives can be saved through a simple but remarkable technique. Thank you brave and selfless lifesaver.
Dear Aman, You are the greatest! What a great friend to mankind you are. I'm very proud to know you. I send my love to you, Laura and the children. Best wishes for a wonderful New Year!!Love, Betsy
What about the men that comes to people when they call for the ambulance are they trained to do cpr?
I would hope so.
Dear Aman, You are a true HERO, in every sense of the word. First, climbing up. Then having the good sense to cut his belt. Then actually CATCHING him and administering CPR for 45 minutes?
WOW! You saved his life, dude. Incredible story.
But, then again, YOU are an incredible man! That man had a lot to be thankful for this holiday season, with YOU at the top of his list.
You ARE DA MAN!!!
I miss you all!
Love from Bev (Kennedys' friend -- still think of you all even though I haven't seen you in a while. I WILL be back!)
Lets also thank the wonderful people who made this possible so Aman knew exactly what to do in this heroic situation (voluter doctors at St. josephs)
Aman, I am impressed with your quick thinking, your decisive actions and emergency response, and leadership in a life-or-death situation...but your heroics are nothing less than what I would expect from a man of your caliber. "Life is for Living" as you told me last March. Take care, Chris Cutrona (UVA Spring Break 2005)
