A new international via Internet phone service
-- out of Estonia, of all places (see yesterday's New York Times business section) -- offers FREE
phone calls via computer as long as both parties
are hooked up (free) to the service.
See http://www.skype.com for more details
Thanks for the info traveller. Have just viewed their rates for calling JA from the UK. Sad to say, but I am getting a better deal with the service I am already using.
If you and your friends are both connected computer=computer via the free software and a simple and cheap headset, there is NO charge/rate. It's entirely free. If your friends don't have a computer and you need call their land or cell line, then there is a charge.
Anyone calling JA from UK from a landline use Telediscount.Just dial the connection number which is 0871 999 7373 or 0871 999 3535, listen to instructions which says dial number and then press the # key. EASY and only costs 10 pence a minute to cell phones and landlines. Hope this is what you're using Gill!! The best I've found so far.I've also on rare occasions used this from my cell phone and it's about 22 pence per minute.Canada,USA and Australia are only 1 pence a minute too. INCREDIBLE VALUE.
Hello, I am using SKYPE for quite some time now, I find it very good, it is clear and hassle free, my grandchildren abroad love it, as we can talk all hours day or night when we are online,my skypename is: erabojamaica.
To all of you here in this forum... Greetings from the Northcoast.A Merry Christmas and a GOOD YEAR 2006. Let's hope that it will be better than 2005. Elke
Hi Barbara - Hope your OK - Are you all packed and ready to go.....lol
I am using 0871 999 8585 for cell 'phones - (10p per minute) and 0844 439 9595 for landlines - Think that one is 4p per minute - though the amount of time I'm on the 'phone I think I must own the 'phone company by now............lol
Does anyone know of an inexpensive way to call JA from the states? I'm always calling cell phones, and neither of the people I call most has a computer, so skype's not an option. I've been using calling cards, and they're cheaper than my regular phone service, but still not all that cheap (about 25 cents a minute).
Any suggestions welcome!
Thx --GG
GG -- One option: Check out vonage.com
Their US to JA rates aren't too onerous, if higher to cell phones than landlines.
And the monthly stateside is cheap. You connect thru your computer and use a headset but the people you call needn't have a computer.
Thanks, I'll check them out!
