The water levels are continuing to go down, and the water has receeded from most houses affected by the floods.

The Pumps brought in have succumbed to the Pond
They were removed from the site.

The monies slated for the project have DRIED out before completing the task.
Sources state $2 million (Jamaican dollars) was allotted for the task, of which a paltry $180,000 was used for fuel.

Residents are now praying for lots of sunshine, as this seems to be the only way out for them, wait upon the lord to dry the pond via evaporation. Unfortunately for them it rain last night.

I heard a speech given by Minister Fergusson - Minister of Transportation and Works on Saturday night in which he spoke of the canal project with $37 million slighted for the project getting under way next year. He also mentioned the repairing of the roads being a priority.

Let's hold an optimistic attitude, keep the pressure on the folks responsible for overseeing these projects, and pray they are well under way if not completed by hurricane season next year.

I'm curious: do you think emails or letters from non-Jamaicans would in any way influence Minister Fergusson or anyone else? I'm just wondering if the idea of losing tourism $$ would push them to really act, rather than propose to spend millions but then really only put a $1,000 band aid on the problem (as seems to have happened with the draining of the ponds).

If you think 'outside pressure' would make some kind of appreciable difference, who should we write to? Maybe someone from TB could help to draft a letter--to be sure all of the relevant issues are presented and stately correctly--and then those of us who wish to write could take that letter and personalize it with our own experiences as TB visitors.

What do you think?
