We're staying in TB for a week the end of November, but need 2 more nights, and we're thinking of Black River. Does anyone know of a place to stay there? Hoping for a clean pretty beach, but am looking for some input. Thanks!

What do you mean by 'need two more nights'?

Is your place in TB booked for the two nights you want?

Or do you specifically want to stay in a new place?

Not many choices in Black River and none with a really good beach. Parottee Point Resort outside town on beach, Waterloo Guesthouse in-town. Libby and Chef no longer manage Hotel Invercauld so that's dicey. In Whitehouse/Little Culloden, 20 min.past Black River, Ann Lyons at Culloden Cove just had a last-minute end of November cancellation -- sweet place, small beach, great food, gardens and birds. You might want to just extend your holiday in TB at another property. A good 'top-off' might be Mar Blue.

We really were trying to see another new spot in JA after TB, but from all I've seen online, looks like we'll just move to another property in TB for the last 2nts. Have to experience something new. Thanks for the help!

Sakinah Guest House is a possibility in Black River on Crane Road, if you're looking for something 'different'. They have beach access and a quite, serene garden setting.

Its run by Muslims for Muslims (doesn't serve alcohol or pork, provides tours about Islam's influence on Jamaica, etc) but my feeling is that they wouldn't discriminate.

Their web site is http://sakinahjamaica.com

Why not spend the additional days in a next bay?

How about the Ashton Great House? From the pool deck, a panorama of the Great Morass, from the Santa Cruz mountains to the sea. Rooms are basic.

If you're in the mood to explore beyond TB, some 2-day options: 1)A desultory roadtrip down the coast, stopping at Alligator Pond for Little Ochie restaurant, Gut River, swimming with 3 manatees in river, exploring the wilder beaches -- then on to and overnights at Milk River Bath for the curative hydryotherapy treatments. 2) A guided trip up into Cockpit Country for extrordinary birding, spleunking, hiking through the karst and overnights at the Windsor Plantation Research Station.

Rebecca also handles a wonderful hideaway called FARAWAY (See www.farawayjamaica.com) up in Blue Mts with a sense of an old Anglo/British Empire hillstation and gardens in the mist. It's a short trip from Kton via Treasure Tours drivers and would definitely fulfill your sense of new/adventure/contrast to TB.

black river is approximately 14 miles from TB
you can do it as a day trip if you like, do the tours or just walk around and take in the view.
your villa rep can tell you the must see places.

As the empty link provided above shows, Fawaway is no longer for rent.

Little Ochie is definately worth the trip.

I have never been to Milk River but am always saying "next trip".

Mild River Bath is an experience in old Jamaica. Very much worth a trip...soaking in the baths will cure anything! And somewhere along that route is a side of the road market that sells lignum vitae cutting boards.
I think Black River might be best for a day trip. Best beaches are in Negril - you could go there on the way back to MoBay. A nice place on the beach is Whistling Bird Cottages or White Sands. Both in business a long time.

Milk River Baths was a bit run down when we went. We all agreed that it wouldn't be something we'd go back to. It just seemed like it wasn't very clean.

Faraway (tho I liked the Babwa Wawa 'Fawaway' above ; ) )-- Is it no longer rented out at all or just not on Rebecca's rental properties? We'd planned on a 3 night stopover en route to Portie next May.

Faraway was affected by Ivan and did not reopen.

Contact Treasure Tours for full info.
