hello-
I'm due to arrive in TB and stay at Pon de Rock two weeks from now. I usually go to Negril, but I've had enough of the hassles there for now (perhaps forever). I'm excited to see TB after all the positive stuff on this board.

Could someone PLEASE tell me what the situation in Ft. Charles is at the moment? Pretty Please.

much obliged,
wildbill

Don´t you worry yourself not a bit. fort charles is fine, so is Pon de Rock. and the fort charles road, the shortest and most scenic connection to Black River, is in a much better condition than the main road into TB. The sky is blue, the sun is shining and I am positive you´ll enjoy a wonderful vacation.

Please tell the truth about the road going into Fort Charles. I heard they are impassable.

The thruth is:::::: the Fort Charles Road is in a far better condition, than the rest of the roads in Treasure Beach, it is no problem to reach Black River.

At last report from Fort Charles: coast road from Calabash to Fort Charles is fine -- it's the back road from Fort Charles to Black River, which always has a few wash-outs in the best of times, that is currently impassable or at best very rough going.

No,no,no tivertonhouse!
The Fort Charles Road is quite passable. sure it has potholes as usual. but I repeat, right now it is in a better condition than the main road into treasure beach.

All I have to say is be VERY,VERY careful driving fron Fort Charles to Black River. If your tires go a few inches too close to the side you can find yourself at the bottom of the precepit and that is far too many feet down for anyone to come out of their veheicle alive.
Honestly I would not want to be driving on that road at this time.

And so say our drivers, Honest Joe...the back road is no place to break down now (it wasn't before), let alone navigate without great care. Any road is 'passable' for the foolhardy.

What can I say, honest Joe and tivertonhouse?
I drive there frequently and drove there a couple of times recently with an ordinary Corolla, so do taxis. The taxis might be foolhardy, I am certainly not.
There are ónly´2 real troublespots (not caused by WILMA!) Coming from Black River, just after you follow the right curve going down to Fort Charles Beach the road broke on both sides. That was filled with marl (inadequately, I grant you that). And further down, after you passed the beach, there is a kind of subsidence across, also filled inadequately.
Compare that to the main road from Pedro Cross gasstation passing the police station. It was a nightmare of huge potholes before WILMA already.
Unless you grant me that that road has been fixed recently I surely prefer to drive the faulty Fort Charles road into Black River (it´s also much shorter).
VERY VERY careful you have to drive on our roads anyway, always hoping the next pothole won´t gobble you up.
Why do I get the impression that there might be other reasons against using that road than the mere condition?
