This coming weekend is the Hook N Line Tournament in Treasure Beach. But its also a national holiday for Jamaica.

Our questions for you:
What holiday(s) are this weekend.
What are their significance to Jamaica.
Any good stories about past holidays you'd care to share...

I think this holiday is National Heroes Day and my mother in law tells me it's to celebrate what your national heroes have done for the country...not sure who they all are but thought Marcus Garvey and Paul Bogle were 2 of them. Hope this is right !! Love from England xx

Yes Barbara that is correct. The names of the other national heroes are George William Gordon,Noman Washington Manley, And Only female was Nanny.

Marja the ones you mentioned are not the only national heroes. There are seven of them, the other two are Alexander Bustamante who is the only one bestowed with the status of hero while alive. Mention should also be made of Samuel Sharpe who led the Christmas Rebellion of 1831.
