Hi--
Can someone let us know what's happening in TB with the recent protests? There's not even a 2-second mention of 'civil unrest' in the news here, and I can't find out too much online, either.

To the best of my knowledge there were no roadblocks directly in TB. I heard of one in Mountainside and one in Barbary Hall. I drove to Junction on Tuesday and came across one very peaceful demonstration and that was it.

People were protesting the increase in the JPS rates. I would not call this civil unrest. I would call it a frustration with people feeling they are being overcharged for a service which has proven inadequate and attempting to bring national attention to the matter by protesting.

Wow, Well put (said)coming from one of many, if not millions dissatisfied customers.JPS(Jamaica Paultry Service, and i will quote our National moto to further describe the above mentioned company)is one out of many utility companies that does not deliver service for the dollar.

Couple more interesting points, i am thinking that the power company is charging it's customers for power outages, as we have more outages that actual power online. The other point is what if we were to have constant power online, what would the bill like unto?

We were quite lucky when digicel came to Jamaica as one utility company saw it's land line business drop off, not one by one, but hundreds per time. The Jamaican consumers need someone to stand up for them, against these type of business practices, which is a result of the protest.

Thanks for the update. I just want to clarify, though, that my use of 'civil unrest' was a backhand to how it would probably have been noted in papers here at home, not a statement of my own feelings about the protest.
