Does Gairy Brooks have a price list for his moped/scooter rentals?
Where do I get petrol and about what is the going rate for that these days?
We're getting socked here in the States to the point that we're beginning to see what the rest of the world has had to live with!!!

Socked is an understatement!! It's really outrageous. I have watched the gas prices go up every single day for the last week!!! What are the prices in JA?

Now you know how most of the rest of the world feels. The US keeps its gas prices much lower than other countries, mainly through low taxes on it, I believe.

Now you could argue that this is a good thing for the economy, but I think that Americans (of which I am one) waste a lot more than others do due to its lower price. Most of those other economies are doing well even with higher priced gas, so I don't think that higher prices automatically mean a long term economic slowdown.

I am curious to see if any long term conservation results out of these high prices, or if we just continue to buy gas guzzlers and not worry about the amount of fuel we consume.

Well, I can honestly say that I have found myself not driving unless I have to. No more Saturday evening drives for me!

Well here in England petrol/gas is now up to almost £1.00 a litre, the highest ever and still they drive round in 'Chelsea Tractors'...the best description there is for Porsche Cayennes, BMW X5's and Range Rovers...the higher the price goes..the more big 4 wheel drive cars you see on the roads...where is the sense in that?

£1.00 is US$1.81, and 1 US gallon is 3.785 liters.

So gas in England is about US$6.85 per gallon.

The average in the US is quoted as around US$2.50 a gallon.

It is approximately $42 JA per liter which would be $2.65 US per gallon. Our gas is subsidised here keeping the costs a bit lower than most Caribbean islands.

I just paid $2.59 a gallon last night in Delaware. That does it - I'm moving to T.B.! If I can fill up my car for the same amount there - why live here?!

The LA Times has a good article on saving gas, albeit with facts about US prices.

An excerpt:
Myths and truths

Belief: Driving close behind a truck improves gas mileage because the truck cuts your wind resistance.

Reality: True, but it's also dangerous.

Belief: Gasoline stations near freeway exits charge higher prices.

Reality: Generally true.

Belief: You get more for your money if you fill up when it's cold because gasoline is denser at low temperatures.

Reality: Not really. Any difference would be insignificant and besides, most pumps correct for temperature.

Belief: Turning off the air conditioning saves gas.

Reality: True, but if you then roll down the windows, the increased wind resistance may eat up any savings.

Belief: Gas prices go up on the weekend, so fill up during the week.

Reality: Generally false.
