I was reading an article in the Lifestyle section of the Observer online about the recent "Bussu Festival" in Swift River, Portland. Some of the food being Bussu Ackee and Saltfish served with roast breadfruit and plain rice, Curried Bussu, Bussu Soup and Bussu Pudding. I would like to know what exactly Bussu is?

Bussu is a river shellfish, endemic to Porty area/Portland/Rio Grande. Like conch or mannish water, it's sometimes considered a restorative/aphrodisiac for men when made into soup.

Janga are thin-shelled river crayfish found in many parts of island;bussu are peculiar to Port Antonio area alone and are more of a shelled mollusc. Sort of like eating tree snail which are great boiled then sauteed with garlic and stuffed back into the shell like escargots.
