battan down the hatches my friends. i am praying "emily" gives you a "bly", here is a strike prob. chart.
http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/tracking/at200505_strike.html
Looking good for a bly so far, Nige. However, it looks like the fishermen and the coastline may get a hit with high and rough seas.
Keeping fingers crossed here as well.
Here's the tracking map from http://noaa.gov/
Let's hope that she stays waaay off the coast.
-TBNet
Thanks for the link, Nige. One thing I like about the site is the Historical Maps, which show the paths of storms in past years that have formed in the same area as current ones.
If nothing else, its interesting to see the varied paths those monsters have taken over the years.
AS OF ABOUT 1:00 PM YOUR TIME EMILY IS CAT 2 APPROACHING CAT 3 110 MPH WITH UPPER EDGE OF TRACK ESTIMATE INCLUDING JAMAICA. scm
Not the best day to come. Where a group of 18 people who rent 3 villa's at Treasure Beach, our flight should arrive at Montego Bay, saturday 16 July at 2PM. Directly at the same time as Emily should hit the south coast. I think it's possible that Montego Bay airport could be close and whe have to wait for a flight for sunday. Does someone have any comment on what we should expect? Excuse my English, i come from Quebec.
It is possible that airport in Mobay maybe closed. Unfortunately you'll have to wait & see. I hope it doesn't ruin your trip.
I pray that TB isn't hit. Stay safe & dry folks if possible.
jfbar:
If the hurricane goes as its supposed to, off the south coast, then it should not be too bad on the north coast where the airport is. So that's good news.
Best of luck on your trip! Pack an extra towel just in case :-)
sorry, but i do not agree with jfbar, wish i could, but if we are hit by a cat. 4 on saterday, even south coast, i sincerly doubt that the north coast will escape its wrath.
dear friends and family, our prayers are with you that we get a shift, but, not looking good, so beg yu, stay safe, listen to the evacuation orders if they come.
here is link to 5am probability chart, take care mi frens.
http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/tracking/at200505_strike.html
Everyone is, once again, getting ready. The fishermen are especially concerned and up to 1 this morning I could hear a tractor helping to haul the boats out of the sea and to higher ground.
The good news is Emily looks like she will be a bit further south than Ivan was.
Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers and, as usual, I will keep you posted for as long as we have power and phone lines.
I hope it does stay further south ! Thanks for the updates Rebecca. And, please keep us posted as long as you are able. Thanks.
thanks Rebecca. as always i will be following the board closely throughout, at least as long as your power holds.
walk good
As of about 8 am your time weather channel here reports cat 4 135 mph W NW DIRECTION due to hit Sat am with general direction toward the Yucatan penninsula. Treasure Beach would catch the upper edge of the path if present guesses hold
thanks rebecca, take care....
Praying for you once again, friends. What a storm season, no time to recover between bouts with the weather. I have been keeping track of Emily on weather.com. If you go to the bottom and click "World" and then enter Jamaica, (I choose Spanish Town when the cities come up, it seems closest) it will give you the satellite view at the bottom. You can even see the old "map in motion". I keep it bookmarked and check on you every couple of hours. It's not nearly as helpful as your posts here, though. Thanks!
Love and Respect,
Suzanne & Otis in West Virginia
First of all, Nige, when I posted that if it goes south then Mo Bay shouldn't get hit too hard, I was hoping the darn thing would stay a Cat 2. Now that its Cat 4, I have to agree that the North Coast could be in for a rough time as well. jfbar, your vacation plans may need to be put on hold.
Now then, time for us to prepare just as the residents down there are. The biggest lesson I learned from the Ivan Relief effort we mounted (just 10 months ago!) was to start early.
Via the Internet we were able to offer assistance in three ways:
1) our thoughts and prayers for those in harm's way
2) information for our web visitors on loved ones and property in TB
3) cash donations
While I'd like to stress that we don't know if or how Emily will affect Jamaica and Treasure Beach, TBNet is starting to prepare a donations page that we'll make public if its needed. And of course we'll keep this site updated on Emily's progress.
What you can do
What I'd like to ask all of our visitors is to prepare as well. Keep the prayers and thoughts coming. They are very, very appreciated by the community.
And start a list of people who you can email/phone if donations are needed.
Can you think of anything else we can do to prepare? All thoughts are welcome.
We did it before. If we have to, I know we can do it again if necessary.
Emily is back down to Category 3.
From noaa.gov
http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/refresh/MIATCPAT5%2Bshtml/120233.shtml
"At 11 am AST...1500z...the center of Hurricane Emily was located near latitude 14.4 north...longitude 70.9 west or about 465 miles...745 km...east-southeast of Kingston Jamaica.
Emily is moving toward the west-northwest near 20 mph...32 km/hr ...And this motion is expected to continue during the next 24 hours. On this track...Emily will be passing to the south or very near Jamaica on Saturday.
Data from a reconnaissance plane and satellite data indicate that Emily has weakened a little and maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 125 mph...205 km/hr...with higher gusts. Emily is a category three hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale. Little change in strength is forecast during the next 24 hours.
Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 40 miles... 65 km... from the center...and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 140 miles...220 km.
Latest minimum central pressure just reported by an Air Force reconnaissance plane was 968 mb...28.59 inches.
Emily may produce total rainfall accumulations of 2 to 4 inches
across portions of the Netherlands Antilles...and 3 to 6 inches are possible over portions of Hispaniola. Emily is also expected to produce total rainfall amounts of 5 to 10 inches over Jamaica... with isolated maximum amounts of 15 inches possible. These rains could produce life-threatening flash floods and mud slides"
Thanks for all comments and infos you give to our groups. It's seems that our flight will not come to Mbay on saturday. We will check for what we could do for help. We will pray for all those people who dont have a chance to keep out the south coast.
Take care of yourself.
I just heard from a friend that Air J is still planning on flying into Mo Bay airport tomorrow. Not sure if that's wishful thinking or not, but its encouraging.
Any updates ?
I'm praying for my family & freinds in Jamaica.
As usual...watching from England and hoping and praying that Emily will skirt round the South Coast and all our beloved friends there.
Cannot believe how close together these storms are coming. Will be in touch with everyone we have numbers for as long as we are able and will be glued to TB.net for the whole of the weekend.
Lots of love and prayers to everyone.
Thanks for the updates Rebecca and Eric...once again doing a fab job
Barbara and Bridgett (Aussie)
xx
once again another hurricane, just as one pass another behind seems like they just want to all come before the season finnish.well me and family experence hurricane ivan last year and know what you all going through.praying for all especially father in Pepper, motherinlaw in Carlisle and wife relatives the Simpsons in Junction.
Sending the Treasure Beach community our thoughts and prayers during this next storm. Hang tough and stay safe. :-) Meredith, Tod, Duncan & Parker
More good news...Emily is weaker than 3 hours ago, 115 MPH winds vs. 125 MPH winds:
"At 2 PM AST...1800z...the center of Hurricane Emily was located
near latitude 14.5 north...longitude 72.0 west or about 395 miles...635 km...southeast of Kingston Jamaica.
Emily has been moving toward the west near 20 mph...32 km/hr but a turn to the west-northwest is expected during the next 24 hours. On this track...Emily will be passing to the south or very near Jamaica on Saturday.
Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 115 mph...185 km/hr...with higher gusts. Emily still is a category three hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale."
Air Jamaica has just announced they are allowing people to change reservations being held for tomorrow (Saturday, 16 July). If you have one, get on the phone and prepare to be put on hold; but, there's a good chance you can reschedule for Sunday or Monday. (We're currently on hold with AJ reservations -- and shall probably arrive Monday instead of tomorrow.)
Meanwhile, we pray Emily will get farther away from Jamaica.
Keep safe, everyone.
Karen and Peter
Houses are boarded up . . .
Roofs are strapped down . . .
And the boats are hauled up . . .
Thanks to Ivan, we are very prepared which will translate into properties and roofs saved of damage.
It is a not so nice flashback to Ivan when I look out of my windows and doors to see them all boarded up with plywood.
But the best news IT IS NOW A CATEGORY 2!!!!!! and traveling further south than first expected.
The relief felt here is tremendous. Anxiety levels were pretty high prior to this news, but now we are all breathing a bit easier. Don't get me wrong, we are still prepared and know the next 36 hours will be challenging, but a category 2 traveling further south is a lot better than a category 4 breathing down our necks.
We have just had a good thunderstorm which actually came in from the north. According to the satellite, it looks like we will have some clear sky tonight for a bit before Emily descends upon us.
As always, I will be in touch.
Special thanks to Miss Dawn who sent me home with an ackee quiche and a fresh lobster to enjoy in my little cocoon!
Christina & Sianna from NH holding all our TB friends in our thoughts ... storm reported to have split in two and weakened recently so we're praying this is a good sign.
stay safe and dry ...
Hopefully Emily will continue to weaken, stay far off shore & head way south !
Good luck, hang tough. Best to all.
Back to a category 3 as of the NOAA.Gov site. It is clear and still here right now.
Category 4, let's keep praying for it to go south.
Clear skies right now and enjoying the moonshine.
I'll check back in the morning.
Our thoughts are with all of T.B. Please tell Miss Joyce, Miss Vanessa (both at Hikaru)and Kevin (Treasure Tours) we are thinking of them and all the residents of beautiful T.B.
Sending prayers your way again. Our hearts are with all of you who took such wonderful care of us when Boston and Meadow got married.
As of 2AM Sat EST from weather.com:
"Emily continues to zip to the west-northwest at 18 mph heading through the central Caribbean. The outer bands will spiral into Jamaica beginning Saturday morning producing squally weather for the island."
"Squally weather" sure sounds better than hurricane force winds. Let's hope they're right.
Signing off.
-TBNet
Waking up to mostly clear skies and not a drop of rain yet.
I got a text from Great Bay around 8 am saying there is some wind, sky over the ocean was black, no rain yet.
My last 5 attempts to text 3 different people in Great Bay would not go through.
Stay safe everone. My prayers are with TB, and all of Jamaica.
Just want to let you all know you are in our prayers now and always. Take good care.
heres praying its not just the calm before Rebecca. stay safe.
Good news as of 8:00 am your time. Emily eye with main winds of up to 140 mph will miss Jamaica well to the south. You will get lots of rain and wind gusts. It is a small system which keeps the main strong winds well away from the island. SCM
It is lightly raining with no breeze at this moment. I just walked down to Calabash Bay beach and the sea is extremely high. As the higher seas typically come after the eye passes, I'm afraid we will have some flooding along the coastline.
Oh Rebecca,
Thank you for keeping all of us well informed of the weather patterns in Treasure Beach. I'm truly anxiety ridden every time I see the paths of these hurricanes (and it's only July!!!). My heart and my prayers are with all the people I have grown to love in Treasure Beach. Please continue to stay safe!
Keep dry down there.
And keep those prayers and thoughts going for Caymans and Yucatan/Texas area.
Keeping a close lookout for you all here in Spokane, WA. Stay dry and safe, and know we're praying for you all. Can't thank you enough Rebecca for all your reports and pics. I'm assuming Joslyn is with you again?
Just as I am typing this the rain is coming down a bit heavier and we are seeing small gusts of breeze. There has been no breeze at all up to now.
The sea continues to pound the shore with some of the larger waves reaching approximately 10-12 feet in height.
Frenchman's Beach
Storm watching at Golden Sands.
Buttonwood tree still standing! I wonder how many hurricanes that tree has weathered.
10 foot waves down at Olde Wharf beach
Special thanks to Silvan James for driving me around allowing me to take these photos and keep you informed.
Bless you Rebecca for such great info, and to Sylvan for driving you for your amazing pictures. And your site, thanks Eric too. I pray there is no loss of life and no lasting effects. Walk good everyone Janet
The wind and rain have really picked up now. I would guess about 60 - 70 mph with higher speed gusts.
Kendra, I just spoke with Joslyn and he is fine. The roof is securely strapped down this time!
The TBWG (Treasure Beach Women's Group) can use your clothing donations. I am posting this because I know so many friends of Treasure Beach are going to TB.net for Hurricane Emily news, so this has a better chance of being seen by a lot of people.
The TBWG is in a great new building just down the road beside Kingfisher Plaza. They maintain a thrift shop, selling items at very fair prices; all proceeds go back to the community. They need used (but not abused) clothing, including shoes, in all sizes. They also need linens, towels, bedding, and small household items. Everything must be appropriate for warm weather (no sweaters) and not require dry cleaning.
Collect what you can before your next trip to Treasure Beach, and bring it to the TBWG. The empty space in your suitcase can be used for bringing souvenirs (many available at the TBWG) back home.
Please remember this is a year-round need and is not related to Hurricane Emily.
No new messages in the last three hours. I hope you all are alright. My prayers are with you.
Take care, Wayne in Maryland
We're still here, not to worry! We are experiencing (estimate) Category 2 hurricane conditions. Winds are gusting at about 90 - 100 mph. and the rain is coming down hard. According to the satellite, I assume we will be experiencing this for another few hours and then it will let up.
These photos were taken from my doorway as, due to the high wind, it is too dangerous to venture out. The roads are full of water and I am getting reports that the sea looks ugly but doesn't seem to be rising any further.
The Lyric wall is still standing Janet!
Thank you Rebecca - Still glued to weather.com and treasurebeach.net, of course, and wondering about you all.
xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox
Extremely heavy thunderstorm during the last hour bringing with it extremely heavy rain. I'm sure there is massive flooding out there. Just before the storm cars were still traveling on the road.
Again, according to the latest satellite we should be seeing the rain slowing down within the next few hours.
Back to mopping up!
Rebecca-Thanks a whole bunch for keeping us up-to-date on events as they happen. It's 6AM Afghanistan time on Sunday 8:30 PM your time and I'm hoping this thing has passed you by now. I couldn't reach my Grandmother in Kingston via phone when I tried a few minutes ago; I imagine the telephone lines are down in her area. Thanks for the pictures you've posted on TB Net; they really helps to stay connected to what's going on there. God bless and stay safe.
Kirk Simpson
If the eye of the storm passed well below Treasure Beach, the Mickey Mouse like ears passed right over. It's now 20:39 CST and from www.weather.com it looks like most of the storm is well past you. That's good news and we can only pray that the damage was minimal. Thank God.
That you are still online is a good sign !
Hi Rebecca
Where in treasurebeach are you exactly I am Laxlie Senior daughter in canada and I havenot been able to get through in the last 3 weeks to my family down there. Hope you and everyone else is ok.
Here is my email Rebecca
Well, it is 5:30 a.m. and the skies are blue, thank God! Emily sure went out like a lioness as the hardest rains were at the tail end of the storm. The rains stopped around 11:00 last night and now there is a gentle breeze blowing with beautifully clear skies.
The lights flickered several times during the storm, but amazingly we still have electricity. Obviously, our phones are still working as well, including digicel and CWJ.
I've just gotten a call to hear the roads are in bad shape with lots of flooding and possibly one car washed off the road near Station.
I am headed out now with camera in hand to check out the neighborhood.
I'm soooo glad Emily has passed with so far minimal damage. I just got through to my Grandma in Kingston and she didn't even sustain any water damage as she's on a slope. Thank God for watching over you all. Rebecca, keep up the good work as always.
Breathing a sigh of relief in Afghanistan,
Kirk.
Hi Rebecca, Thank you so much for keeping us informed about Emily and Treasure Beach. We are so relieved to know that this storm is passed and damage is not absolutely devestating. Our hearts are with you and all the community of Treasure Beach and all of Jamaica.
Hello to all our many friends. We think of you all the time. Our home is filled with paintings of the people and places of Treasure Beach and we look forward to seeing you all again in January.
Love, Ginny and Tom
Thank you and take care of yourself Rebecca. Any pictures of Great Bay would be a ppreciated. I have family there.
I am glad Emily passed with only minimal damage! My prayers were with you in church this morning. Take care everyone.
Wayne in Maryland
Hi Rebecca
I think you are doing a wonderful job, thanks for the good work you are doing
God bless you
Back from the street.
I am hearing of massive flooding throughout Jamaica. In south St. Elizabeth we have heard of loads of flash flooding causing washouts in many communities including Junction, Southfield, Queensbury, Meyersville, Santa Cruz, Ridge Pen, Round Hill, Mountainside, etc.
Back in Treasure Beach the beach has experienced more erosion, but all boats and seafront property seem to still be in tack for the most part. Some areas have received minimal damage.
This photo was taken from the deck of Cacona Beach Cottage around 6 a.m.
This view is of Calabash Bay this morning.
The most damage done seems to have occurred between 7 and 11 p.m when we received the torrential rains. I am hearing of a few houses in Great Bay that are flooded out. The blessing is most folks prepared and if their house had flooded out before, they moved out in anticipation of the storm. Long Pond and Great Pond are both swelled right up to the road.
The most extensive damage seems to be to the roads.
This photo was taken near Sunset Resort gate.
The following are photos of damage done to the road just below the police station.
The owner of this car had parked it on the side of the road when he saw the flooding, walked up to the police station and found the car like this later on. The flood waters had tumbled it down the road. Sobering to think of the force of a flash flood.
Continued . . .
Hi Rebecca hope you are well and have weathered the storm. We are Don and Colette from Ireland. We arrived at Jakes in Treasure Beach last week and were due to get married there this Tuesday but were evacuated on Friday. We are currently in Montego Bay but it does not compare with Treasure beach and we would like to get back as soon as possible. Jakes will not be open until at least Wednesday so our planned marriage will have to be postponed. They have also advised that the roads are impassible and we do not know whether we will be able to get there. We would appreciate any advice you can provide on how best to get there and the current state of the roads, including whether there are any plans to do repairs this week
We hope that we will be married in Treasure Beach before we have to leave Jamaica on 26 July
Any information you can proovide would be extremely helpful
thanks and best wishes
Don and Colette (hopefully soon to be Mr and Mrs Leeson)
The following are photos of the Great Bay road:
The following is a very full Great Pond.
continued . . .
This is how the road looks going into Billy's Bay. The water was up to the grill of a Hiace bus.
The farming industry, once again, received a hard hit with many fields flooded. The following is a watermelon patch.
The fishing industry, no doubt, also got a good knock, but we will not be able to fully access the damage there until the sea calms down enough for the fishermen to go out and locate their pots.
The following is the road to Bluntus continuing on to Beacon. I know it is hard to believe, but this is the only access in and out of TB right now.
And then there is Skibbo! After staying on the Pedro Cays during Ivan, Skibbo has found out the wiser way to spend time during and after a hurricane.
I would like to thank Esther Mead for loaning me her car to get around this morning to take many of the above photos and to Kevin Miles for driving me around seeking a doable route out of TB and obtaining more photos.
I know the roads look horrible now, but after Hurricane Charlie (which did about the same damage)the road below the police station was made passable within 6 hours.
One thing I always have admired and respected is the resilience of the Jamaican people. Everyone was out and about this morning, first hugging each other and counting our blessings that we have roofs over our heads, leaves on the trees, electricity, phones, and so much more that we did not have after Ivan. Then folks got down to business, drying out, cleaning up, and patching up the roads not waiting for the government to come and fix it.
We have received another hurricane blow, but once again, we will come through a stronger and better community.
Thanks always to all of you who have supported us with your thoughts and prayers. We so appreciate it!
I have heard that they are attempting to fix the road coming through Bacon, as it appears to have sustained the least damage of all the roads leading into Treasure Beach. If so, you may be okay. You might also get as far as the police station, have someone from Treasure Beach meet you there, and carry your bags across that unbelievable gully. In any case, I would suggest you call Jake's to find out if the roads are open from MoBay to Black River. Another alternative would be to be picked up by boat in Black River. We are coming into MoBay tomorrow morning (from Baltimore), and those are the choices we will be considering. (If anyone is aware of the road conditions from MoBay, please post what you know.)
Rebecca, we're supposed to be coming in on the 23rd to stay at Driftwood on Great Bay. Those roads look bad, will we be able to get through?
Wow !
Emily really mashed up the road !
Rebecca thanks for keeping us in the loop. Try to be safe in the process.
Peace
rebecca i just want you to know how much we appricate the good work you are doing in keeping us update in almost everthing that going on back home, i would like to meet you when i come to treasure beach soon, thanks for all the pic and all the info may god continue to bless you my darling your the best.
Any Idea how Guilty made out this time around? Thanks for the updates
Hi Rebecca you are doing a great job keeping us posted on TB.NET, all the way in the UK, you are a blessing to TB, you and all the TB people are in my prayer, just hope you and all my family and friends are ok, say hi to Sylvan James for me from his brother UK Man,God Bless you all Onelove to you all there in TB.
Well, another first today, at least for Treasure Tours. Satchwell did a superb driving job of getting the guests as far as Great Bay. The washout definitely blocked the road, so we had to take to the streets, walk through the washout and to the other side where their driver was waiting on them to take them the rest of the way to The Blue Marlin.
As we were doing this, the Great Bay posse was out in full form working hard at putting the road back in shape. Nuff respect to all those volunteers out there donating time and equipment towards getting the roads passable again!
To all those concerned. You can get through the Bluntus road and all the way to and from Mobay. Treasure Tours is delivering four groups of guests to and from Mobay on into the night. Kevin and Kenny are currently at the airport and Silvan is halfway there. The above photos shows our first guests' arrival after the storm.
Renardo, Silvan is on his way to Mobay as we speak! He had several friends help him get his car out of the Great Bay road today and he is on his way again. I'll send him your regards!
Karen, next time you would like an update on road conditions, just check in with the great team of Treasure Tours. When I was ready to find a hotel room in Montego Bay for all our guests arriving today Kevin suggested we check the roads out ourselves. He was determined to get our guests and blazed the trail for the first non-4 wheel drive bus to drive out of Bluntas. Kevin braved very high flood waters to get his bus out of the lane he lived in, and Silvan had an entire crew working on getting his car out of Great Bay. Satchwell, based in Mobay, came down from there and let us know of the road conditions via his cell phone all along the way. He was the first large coaster bus to make his way into Treasure Beach. I still don't know how he accomplished that! This team is unstoppable and I am so very proud to be a part of it!!
I know Treasure Beach is amazing but this just confirms it. Thanks Rebecca you are so wonderful for doing what you do.
I remmember being in a truck driven on the Bluntus road back in March (heading to Big Woods)I thought that road was aweful! And now it is the best option !
Rebecca, thanks for all of the great information and pictures. We here in Idaho are all greatful that the damage was only to the roads and not to the great people of T.B.
Do you know what the conditions are in Negril? I haven't been able to find anything on the Web. We have a friend that lives there and we are a bit concerned about him.
Can someone tell me where treasure beach is located. I will be in JA next march and I will definately try to visit this place.
Peace
Rebecca,
What a wonderful job you guys are doing! You are priceless. The flow of information and constant update of whats going on there mean so much to us Treasure Beachans who are all across the globe. An absolutely spendid job. Respect
Thanks so much for the photos Rebecca. Lots of TB folks up here working can get a better idea of what's what in TB.
As always, TB.net is a beacon.
Janet, if you check out the main page of this site and scroll down to the bottom, there is a map of Jamaica showing you the location of Treasure Beach on the South Coast about 12 miles outside of Black River.
See you in March!
great job Rebecca. big up to yu.
are Shirley and Stuart still around? I dont see their cottages listed on this site anymore. I see Frankie & Kunga's listing. Is the Genus family ok?
"Another alternative would be to be picked up by boat in Black River."
Now there 's a cool way to arrive in TB!
Thanks again for the updates Rebecca!
Rebecca, thanks for all of your work. I am glad Treasure Beach is such a wonderful community. I hope to see you all again.
Wayne in Maryland
Who would be doing the boat ride from black river. Did any homes get damge on the sea side?. I will be down there in few days see you them rebbeca
The sea's been a bit rough, so there's no guarantee of a smooth ride by sea...
Thanks for all your advice on how to get to Treasure Beach - we finally made it! It was a bit hairy but our driver from Jakes was brilliant and the local people are really working together to get things back to normal as soon as possible. We will be getting married tomorrow as planned and are delighted to be in Treasure Beach for our wedding
Regards and best wishes
Don and Colette
Thanks for the pics Rebecca. Good to see that Emily herself has passed. Now for the clearing up. What a mess!
Anyboy have news of Wilby Rogers in Crossroads or Engrid, Robert & Weeze Dicker?
nuff respect to rebecca you are our eyes in st elizabeth, and jamaica.it is so rewarding the photos you have shown us what scale the devastation of the hurricanes which have now passed.any other info about Junction and the surrounding areas.one love from peter in Huddersfield ENGLAND
Hello Tresure Beach!! I am ever in love with your W/site. I was born in St. Bess 59 years ago and I am still in love with her. I stopped over in January for refreshment and a tour of TB I love the quietness of the place, hope to be back next year. Love from Texas.
Posting this with a sigh of relief. I've been cut off from internet for the last five days and had no idea until tonight of how TB came through the hurricane. (My local weather gave next to no info, only concerned with when Emily would get to the States. Feh.) Thanks, as before, to Rebecca, for your reporting of the storm. I am supposed to be arriving in TB on Thursday, and I hope that will happen. If I make it down, I've got ten days this trip and can spend it all helping with clean up and other needed work. Hope to see all my TB friends soon.
GG
The road from the police station coming into Treausre Beach is now opened. For all of you concerned about reaching here from Montego Bay or Kingston, no worries. The roads are open and passable. We have made several trips to and from both locations since Sunday.
The sea is calming down nicely and the Pelican Bar is open and ready for business!
I have not heard from Guilty directly, however, knowing the position of his home, I believe he would be just fine.
The Dickers are all fine, however, the road in front of their house was a bit washed out. Sunday morning I already saw Robert, Engrid, the children and several other residents of that road out there with shovels making the road passable.
I will have to ask about Wilby Rogers.
I am going to Mandeville today, so I will have a better idea of road conditions, etc. including in Junction after today. I have heard that, like TB, Manchester and all of South St. Elizabeth received flooding and washed out roads.
HELLO REBECCA AND ALL MY FRIENDS AT TREASURE BEACH. HAVE HAD YOU IN MY PRAYERS FOR WEEKS AS THE HURRICANE SEASON COMES AGAIN. LUCY GAVE ME THIS WEB SITE. WILL CONTINUE TO SEND THE LIGHT AND HOPE THAT KENT'S SPIRIT IS THERE HELPING TOO. LOVE, CEECEE IN WEST VIRGINIA
Thanks Rebecca....you are truly appreciated!
Hey CeeCee, Kent's spririt is always among us and we hope to see you again soon!
The roads going up to Mandeville today were not too bad. The most damage was from TB to Southfield but we were able to drive through. This is only the main road that we were on. I have heard of extensive damage done to the road leading to Aligator Pond and in Lititz.
Folks are doing a great job of repairing the roads enough for people to move on. I must have passed 6 tractors and many trucks hauling marl for fill.
Thank you Rebecca-
For ALL your hard work, and information, and your heart of gold.
I heard in the news that Emily is actually affecting our weather here in Calif now. Pushing in a warm front(?).
The power of Mother Nature is really something.
Hello all in TB,
Your upbeat reaction to such adversity is simply brilliant. Thanks Rebecca for doing such superb job of keeping us informed of what is happening. Hope to be back soon,
Paul and Jo Mead .
Thanks for the update on TB. I will forward this information to our 13 students who have worked in TB the past two summers. The photos were amazing and give great insight as to why the roads are so "bad."
The Treasure Beach people are a hearty and courageous group! Thank you Rebecca for caring so much.
Jan Droegkamp, University of Illinois at Springfield.
Well, once again disaster has struck and I'm not there to help. My best thoughts and wishes are with you all. Hope this is the last as OUR little community has taken such a beating. Keep working hard together.
One Love
Hi Rebecca,
Thank you for the pictures the update and the happenings in and around Treasure Beach. You are a God sent to T/Beach. I hope we will be spared from the next hurricane.......Treasure Beach we love you and all the inhabitants. Peace, love and happiness to you all.

Thank you for the pictures and update of what is going on.
Thanks Rebecca for informing our family and friends abroad of the damage done by Emily. Hardly anyone was spared the damage, my mom & dad home was flooded out (Wilton & Renee Graham) also our neighbours but we give God thanks for life spared. Much love to all.
