From weather.com
http://www.weather.com/newscenter/tropical/:

d w
"...in the Atlantic Basin, Tropical Storm Dennis, located in the southeastern Caribbean, is expected to grow stronger, possibly reaching hurricane strength by Thursday morning [as] it pushes toward the WNW. Meanwhile, hurricane warnings have been posted along portions of the south coast of Hispaniola and for Jamaica. Hurricane watches are posted for the Cayman Islands and eastern Cuba. All interests in the Caribbean should closely follow the progress of Dennis. Indications are that Dennis will move into the Gulf of Mexico by the weekend, possibly at hurricane strength and may eventually threaten the US Gulf Coast."

Early indications are that its likely to hit the north coast harder than the south, but remember that Ivan's path jumped around at the last minute, so people in Treasure Beach are taking this one seriously and are preparing.

We'll keep information posted here as to the storm's status throughout the next couple of days. We ask that if you have any valid information, please post it here. Or send it to us at webmaster@treasurebeach.net and we'll see that it gets up here.

This link should give the most up to date path projections:
http://www.weather.com/maps/news/atlstorm4/projectedpath_large.html

Keep those prayers and good thoughts coming.

It is overcast as we speak. I understand it has been raining in Kingston all night. Right now they are saying that it looks like Dennis will be a category 1 hurricane with 80 mph winds by the time it reaches Jamaica mid-day on Thursday.

As you can imagine Dennis is the talk of the town right now, bringing up some (not great) memories of Ivan. The good news is, everyone is taking the warnings seriously and will be well prepared.

Just had a serious thunderstorm, but the sky is clearing up. They are now projecting the hurricane to be passing us tomorrow afternoon.

Everyone has been busy preparing today. The boats are up on dry land, the Pedro Cays have been evacuated and all fishermen are coming in.

The hardware stores and supermarkets are buzzing and the plywood is going back up on the windows of many houses.

I have received confirmation that all fishermen from Billy's Bay, Frenchman's Bay, Calabash Bay, and Great Bay are safely home . . . including Skibbo!!

The update at 8:00 p.m. is still predicting Dennis will be staying more towards the northeast of the island with a possibility of it being a category 2.

Scattered clouds but still seeing plenty of stars in the sky.

Good morning everyone. We are waking up to off and on showers with overcast skies. Once in a while a bit of wind, but not much yet. They are still predicting the hurricane will veer off towards the northeast of the island with the center of the storm arriving around later this afternoon.

Both airports are closed until further notice.

path0707
from NOAA

Update from http://www.weather.com/newscenter/tropical/:
Hurricane Dennis continues to grow stronger in the central Caribbean this morning. Hurricane warnings remain in effect for Jamaica, the southwest peninsula of Haiti and the Cayman Islands. Hurricane watches are posted for central Cuba. Dennis is expected to batter Jamaica today (possibly as strong as a Category 2), then continue along the south coast of Cuba. The mountainous areas of Jamaica could pick up between 10 and 20 inches of rain. By this weekend, Dennis may be a very dangerous hurricane plowing NNW through the eastern Gulf of Mexico. All interests along the Gulf Coast from Louisiana to the west coast of Florida should monitor the progress of Dennis very carefully.

Just got the latest update and Dennis is veering northward which is good news for us. It looks like we will be getting the affects of a tropical storm with winds of approximately 80 mph.

Drizzling in Kingston, getting darker here with occasional raindrops.

This photo was taken at approx. 8:30 a.m. in Calabash Bay. As you can see the sea is still pretty calm, but the water level is high.

If you have a high-speed Internet connection (don't bother trying with a dial-up connection), you can download wonderful software at www.hurricanesoftware.com. There's a free trial period to use the software; then, should you wish to continue, I believe it costs roughly $30 (U.S.) to purchase it.

The clouds are looking pretty serious over the Santa Cruz Mountains. This is the view over Sandy Bank.

clouds

Just getting occasional showers so far.

The sea is coming in a northwesterly direction. The waves are not that big but any fisherman will tell you they don't like a northwestern breeze.

Just had a good thunder clap, but no rain is falling.

I'll keep in touch.

of St. Bess and TB available on island or off, volunteer online reporters are actively sought

It has been steadily raining for a few hours now, fortunately not a heavy rain. There is no wind and the sea is still not that ruff. According to the satellite images, it looks like we will continue to get rain for several more hours.

I have heard reports of flooding throughout the northeastern part of the island and there have been scattered power outages including in Kingston. However, we still have power and phones in TB.

Oh, Susi, how I wish you were right! It has been raining all night, sometimes heavy. The winds picked up around 10 p.m. and for about 20 minutes we had approximately 80 mph winds. The rest of the night we have had about 30 - 40 mph winds.

I'm sure there is flooding out there. I will call around and try to find out more and will report in.

We still do not have electricity, so I will be conserving my laptop batteries with only reporting if the weather changes or when I have news.

Treasure Beach residents, we have been tracking Dennis on the internet satellite for the last couple of days. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We thought all would be well when the eye of the hurricane passed to the north of the island, but it looks like you are just now getting the worst of it. May God's hedge of protection surround you.

Thanks Rebecca for your posts.

Howdy Rebecca and everyone else,

Once again, TB net is just about the best source of information for those off island. It's great that you've gotten so good at this and a shame that you've had to. My thoughts, along with everyone else (I'm sure), go out to TB. I hope all is reasonably well in TB this morning. From a distance, this shouldn't be as bad as Ivan because all of Jamaica was on the downdraft side of the storm, but nature can be very capricious and unpredictable. I'm sure you will issue an update as soon as you can. Please let us know if off island assistance is needed.

One love,

Peyton

I'm breathing a lot easier now that Dennis passed by without serious damage as Ivan. I spoke to my Grandmother in Kingston about 6:30 AM JA time and she was outside doing stuff. The rain had subsided and leaving a slight wind there. Thanks for keeping us posted.
Best wishes,

Just been out and about. The roads are filled with lots of water but are still passable. No serious flooding in TB. At first glance everybody looks to be okay, just a bit wet.

This was taken 1 hour ago in front of Natural Vibes in Frenchmans.

denroad

The sea level is high, but the waves are not so bad. There has been some beach erosion, however.

These were taken of Frenchman's Beach this morning.

The sky is just starting to lighten up and it looks like the worst is over.

The Montego Bay airport is re-opened and flights are arriving. Kingston airport is expected to open tomorrow morning.

We are very grateful that TB was spared any serious damage and our thoughts and prayers now go to those still experiencing the effects of Dennis.

Thanks to all of you who have kept us in your thoughts and prayers. As always it is appreciated!

Great to hear from so many friends keeping us in your thoughts.

Cable & Wireless cell phones were down for a short time this morning, but are up and running again. The land lines and Digicel have been up throughout, thank God.

We are hearing of lots of rivers overflowing and flooding occurring on the northeast section of the island from parts of Clarendon around to St. Mary. A few bridges have been washed out and people have been flooded out of their homes.

We are feeling very relieved and grateful here in TB today. Our thoughts and prayers now go to the persons in the path of Dennis.

With the good news that Jamaica has for the most part been spared major damage from Dennis, let's not forget the people who have lost lives, houses, and property from the hurricane. And those who are still in its path.

Haiti and Cuba has been hit hard (10 dead in each country is the latest I've heard) and the south coast of the United States is bracing for yet another powerful storm within the last 9 months.

Let's keep the prayers and best wishes coming for everyone affected by Dennis.
