I will be in Treasure Beach in Nov. would it be possible to hire a local person to take me out fishing for a few hours?

Absolutely. My recommendation would be to wait until you are here and ask at the place you are staying. Each villa/guest house has someone they can recommend.

Or check out Fi Reel Fishing Tours ad on this site and contact them directly.

I would recommend NOT using Everett the captain of the White Dolphin. We hired him for a trip back in May and had a bad experience. He took us out for an hour and the fish were not biting so he told us he would take us the next day free of charge and never did. Basically we paid him 150.00 for nothing. He would not refund even a portion of our money. We even tried to get him to give us a ride out to Pelican Bar, as a compromise, he refused.

Re: the above post, I don't think any fisherman can control whether fish bite or not, it seems odd to have been given a guarantee.

We've really enjoyed our excursions to Pelican, Black River and to see dolphins with Dennis Abrahams very much. Comfy boat too, with cushions.

Another good fishing guide/boatman and all-round fantastic guide and person is Allan Dale. You can ask for him anywhere but he can often be found at Irie Rest in Billy's Bay. He knows Treasure Beach and the whole island like the back of his hand, has a comfortable boat and stresses safety always.

I have to agree that NO boat captain can guarantee that the fish will bite.

Seems the issue is that the captain in question offered a service (taking them out the next day) that he didn't deliver.

As for Dennis, mentioned above, he is the man! Highly recommend him as a captain, or just to hang out with. He was also very instrumental in working on the Hurricane Ivan Relief Committee.

That was exactly the case with our boat captain. It was his idea to stop fishing and go the next day. We paid for a 4 hour trip and was only out an hour. Catching or not catching fish was never the issue.

Don't think that this one small incident ruined our trip or anything like that. It was unfortunate, and when we do come back to T.B., and we will, we will just find a different captain.
