The women's cricket match between Treasure Girls and New Berry, played at Jamaica College in Kingston ended in a draw. After a late start Treasure Girls batted first making 139 runs. Tameika Sanford made 40. In reply New Berry made 115 for 9 wickets. Petagaye Hanson getting 3 wickets and Trisha Bromfield 4 wickets were the main bowlers for Treasure Girls. Play ended at 6:00 p.m. due to nightfall setting in. The Treasure Girls were a bit disappointed in the outcome as New Berry are our rivals and we were in a good position to win.
We would like to give special thanks to Kenny and Kevin Mills for the use of their bus and for driving the Treasure Girls to Kingston. Also, special thanks to Mar Blue for continuing to be our greatest supporters. We could not continue without everyone's generosity and kindness!
Our next match is scheduled for Sunday, March 20, at the Great Bay Sports Ground against the Kingston Kilowatts.
Wish us luck!
Rebecca where is your bus?
Unfortunately, my bus was stolen on February 3. The St. Catherine police found it about a week later, along with 6 cars and a van, totally scrapped down. It seems there was a ring where someone would steal the vehicles and then scrap them to sell off the parts for used parts. The police were able to arrest 3 persons who were responsible for the scrapping of the vehicles, but there are no leads on the persons who actually stole the vehicles.
Ironically, the Treasure Girls are responsible for us finding the bus back. The engine and chassis numbers were burned off of the remaining shell of the bus, so there was no way to identify it. However, the police found a booklet tossed into the bushes nearby that was the fixtures schedule for the Jamaica National Women's Cricket League with Silvan's name on the cover. There was a local (St. Elizabeth) phone number written on the book, the police called it and the folks who answered the phone were able to put them onto our local police who immediately put two an two together and contacted me.
Transportation for Treasure Tours is going on as usual with us just contracting out other buses, of which Kevin Mills is our #1 bus man! Silvan James is still with us, thank God, using his own car for transfers.
I do have to say here that the support and kindnesses shown to me during this whole ordeal has been overwhelming. I have had offers of use of vehicles from so many as well as words of encouragement and support from this wonderful community of Treasure Beach. You never realize how much people care until something like this happens and I would like to thank all of you who have given your support to me over the last weeks.
Silvan James and the 'Treasure Tours Posse' has especially been a rock for me, being there through it all and literally holding me up when I saw the shell remains of my bus. Silvan and the Treasure Tours posse of Omar and Westin drove the 3 hours to St. Catherine with me to identify the bus, not getting home until 2 a.m. Omar offering his car to me any time I need it, Kevin giving over the keys to his bus to me to drive the Treasure Girls to their matches, and Silvan literally throwing his keys to his car at me and running out of my house forcing me to use his car for the day.
Thanks also must go to Lisa, Dawn and my neighbors Oral and Joyce who have been there with unlimited hugs, support, and a good cry now and then.
Through misfortunes is when we realize how fortunate we are!
