I am travelling to Treasure Beach for Christmas and New Years.
Our hosts will be picking us up at the airport in Montego Bay but I was wondering what the best way to get around the TB area would be during our stay?

Is it far between the different bays?
Would we be able to rent bikes possibly?

I know that we have access to a driver where we are staying and that there are taxis around, but for a run to the store, or for dinner or lunch at one of the restaurants it would be nice to be able to get there and back on our own.

I would love some info on bike rentals and
I am also wondering if there is a car rental agency in TB or is the closest one in Negril?

Thank you for you help!
I am so excited about our visit. This website has been incredibly helpful. It seems like a wonderful community and a very special place to visit.

Anna

Depending on where you are staying, walking about in TB is a pure delight. You may rent bikes from Jakes. There is a very nice taxi driver named Gary that you may find at Jakes that can take you around as well.

However walking to Jakes, Jack Sprats, Tiffany's or any of the other local spots in Treasure Beach are within walking distance of many of the guest houses.

You would take a taxi traveling from Great Bay to Calabash Bay to Billy's Bay. They are a good bit of distance from each other. If you are an experienced bike rider, you may be able to hadle the roads yourself.

Don't know too much about a car rental agency.

Enjoy your first visit . . . you'll soon be hooked like the rest of us!!

Depending on what bay you are staying in would be key, if you are staying in a bay that is far from most shops and huts you might consider renting a bike at the Q-en but if you are in a bay where there are more shops and bars you should be fine.
what bay are u staying in?

You can just walk around Frenchman's and Calabash Bays. I stayed past the north end of Frenchman's Bay and easily walked down to Jakes several times a day for the Calabash festival. Restaurantes, groceries, and coffee shops are all within easy reach.

I agree with you "a visitor". walking is my favorite means of transportation around the bays.

May I recommend a driver/tour guide that I've employed twice in the past and has also become a close friend; His name is Gairy Brooks and he is a native of Treasure Beach. He can be contacted on his cell phone @(876)452-4490. Please tell him Kim and I send our Love and Respect and we'll see him in May 2005. Best of luck and enjoy the sights, scents, flavors and the wonderful people of Treasure Beach!

What I like to do if I'm staying longer than a week is go down to the plaza and buy a bike they cost about $100 US.This might seem like alot but a bike from Jakes will cost about $25 US/day but they are good bikes and a bike from the Q-en is about $10 US/day but they are not in the best of shape.I like to either give the bike to somebody or donate it to Breds or just sell it really cheap. One time I bartered lunch for two weeks in exchange for my bike.
