Representatives from the Office of National Reconstruction, National Youth Service, and Jamaica Combined Cadet Force attended the Relief Committee meeting on Wednesday to inform us they have chosen Treasure Beach for a beach clean-up day on Saturday.

Previously, they held beach clean-up days in Negril and Portland and had great success.

So with lots of their help, we have the cadets coming from Munro College and STETS, lots of youth from Black River High School, Newell, and Sandy Bank schools, and we are spreading the word in the area to come out for a clean-up day.

The whole idea of this project is to instill in the youth the importance of volunteering and how it can positively impact a community.

Everyone will be meeting at Jack Sprat at 7:30 a.m where breakfast will be prepared and served by the Treasure Beach Women's Group, rakes, trash bags, etc. will be handed out to the volunteers, and then we will meet up again at lunchtime. Jack Sprat will be providing lunch for all, and then back out again until 3 or 4.

Food will be subsidised by the Office of National Reconstruction.

They are expecting around 150 volunteers!

Does anyone know if the cleanup included the beach at Calabash Bay? I hear it was hit really hard.
