Prof's guest house (next to Karibu) has rooms for rent with shared use of the kitchen. Rooms are clean and have fans, but no AC. The cheapest share a bathroom, some rooms have their own bathroom. Most guests are Jamaican. If you call Treasure Beach Tours (Rebecca), she can probably hook you up with Prof.

Calabash House for sure is the best for the money. Very large air conditioned rooms, shared kitchen and Dawn is an incredible cook. Very well priced and is right on the beach. You would have to check their availability as I know they suffered some damage during the hurricane.

On the list of cheap rates is the Shakespeare Cottage, with a front sea view and a private Patio with a view of the Santa Cruz Mountain. It has private and semi private bathrooms and shared kitchen. It is known as A1 for cleansiness.--second nearest guest house to the Treasure Beach Hotel main entrance. Someone recently posted contact numbers for this cottage as 1876-965-0120 and 1876-856-7091 and email nlewis25@bellsouth.net

I stopped by Rooms on the Rocks in May, very basic, but clean, no a/c but fans, and the owners were very nice. Can't remember excactly how much the rooms were, but I'm guessing around $30 per night.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Rebecca on Friday, October 08, 2004 - 04:47 pm: Edit Post

Rooms on the Rock is a lovely place. The rooms are small, but have a bed, bureau, private bath, and fan in each room. All rooms open out into a very large screened in verandah overlooking the sea. Each room has a table and chairs set up on the verandah, so you can relax into the view. Their rooms rent for $1200 JA or $20 US per night and the phone number is 965-0160. Jimmy, the owner, is a pleasure to work with.

Waikiki rents for $20 US per night per room or you can rent the whole 3 bedroom house for $50 US per night. You can make reservations by calling 965-3660. Please note that if it wasn't for the generosity of Segre McKenzie, owner of Waikiki, many boats on Frenchman's beach would have been lost. Segre just opened up the gate and let the fishermen haul their boats high up on his land. Thanks Segre!

Rebecca,

Does Wakiki have a web site ? Do you handle wakiki's bookings.
(I'm actually waiting for some $$.) But as soon as I know when I'll have it in hand I'll see who has rooms left for the holidays).

I still haven't booked a place (I'm waiting for an insurance check to book air fare & room) I have been printing the rates and contact info / so once I get the $$ I can go down the list and see who has a room left for me. I appreciate all the info / responses that I have received. I'd like to add one more place to my list. Anyone have info on May Day cottages ???

I have stayed there quite a bit. Nice, simple and clean. Its a short walk to Calabash Beach or to the main supermarket. And is right across from Kingfisher Plaza with a small shop,. Nanny's bar, and Gold Coast Restaurant.

I really like the Gordon's who run it Very nice and accomodating.

My two cents
-Eric

which area of T.B. to start? we are coming into t.b. for the last week of Jan. where is the best area to stay out of the 4 main villages. Is there one main town or area that is the center?
I dont have a grasp of how big T.B. is. Is it easy and cheap enough to get to all village areas or is it better to pic one and settle in? which bay is the question. thanks all

I just spent 12 days at Shakespeare cottage in Frenchmans bay for 15$US per nite. Though I'm in love with great bay, I really dug being closer to "stuff" at shakespeare. Lemme know if ya want some more info.

If ya email, write something snappy in the subject line.... 12 days worth of junk mail to weed through. :o)

Rent a mt.bike from Morris at Q-PEN in Calabash Bay for an easy and inexpensive transport option that will open up all areas to you, including Great Bay and Billy's Bay, both quieter than being 'in-town' in Calabash or Frenchman's. Bring your own bike helmets, tho.

Calabash and Frenchmans Bays are "central", and an easy distance to walk. Looking at the map on the website, you can walk briskly from TB Hotel to Jake's in 10 minutes. From that you can estimate how far out the rest of the places are.

I have a strange request. Though I spent my vacation at Shakespeare cottage, I didn't take any pictures of the property. If anyone happens to have any pictures of the property, with or without people in them could you please email them to me?

Thanks! :-)

I stayed in the little detached cottage out back, but I'll be staying in the main house like you are, in July. When are you heading to Treasure Beach? (and from where if I may ask)

Feel free to email me.

I'd like to offer my 2 cents, I stayed at Shakespere and I would not reccommend it. The rooms are hot, the patio has not one comfortable place to sit and the same goes for the living room. For the same money or less, Waikiki is a better deal, nicer rooms, closer to the sea so a better breeze. Also can reccommend Marion house on Calabash bay, comfortable, clean and great location with a lovely patio. May Day cottage looks nice also and have had friends stay there who liked it a lot.

Oh well ! It's booked. So I'll find out 1st hand. We needed a cheap room with a private bath use of kitchen. Perhaps I'll have a look at Waikiki and a few other while I'm in TB.

I also want to see the new rooms at Vikings house. I love Great Bay best but needed something REALLY CHEAP this trip.

In response to a posting on February 10, 2005, I wish to say Operators of Guest Houses in Treasure Beach maintain a good relationship with each other and do not encourage our visitors to sway others with bad publicity against any of our Guest Houses. One person cannot speak for the masses. "What's good for the goose is not good for the Gander". One person's "dislike" might just happen to be the haven of many, many, maaany visitors from many walks of life.

My stay at Shakespear went VERY well. I do plug the the places that I've stayed at and enjoyed.

Everybody has their own taste (and budget)
